Raz Cams, Stg II, No VTC, TUNED, 181whp
Thanks to MAINSTREAM PERFORMANCE in Powder Springs, GA, I was able to spend some time on the dyno tonight! Mike @ Mainstream has always come through for me.
As you can see, Stock cams make more torque down low. This is wholly due to VTC being disabled. I included the stock dyno because I changed motors since the last set of dynos. There is a lower mileage motor in the car now which made more baseline power than the old motor.
Even with the higher baseline, the Raz Cams stage II made 27whp more than the stock cams, without VTC! The tuned VTC dynos will reflect much less low end torque loss. Also the tuned VTC maps will reflect even more gains up top. The tuned map feels much smoother. Although it's not reflected on the dyno plot, the part throttle driving has been vastly improved. I daily drive the car at present using the non-VTC map.
The car is now making as much peak HP as the untuned VTC maps!! Part of this simply stems from the fact that the Previous VTC maps were obtained from a motor that had over 100k miles. The tuned maps are done on a motor that has about 40k miles, everything else has remained unchanged. This is quite remarkable and bodes well for what the final VTC dynos will look like. Obviously the torque output of the VTC maps is far superior.
VTC map tuning will begin next week. I'm waiting delivery of parts needed to safely run VTC with these cams. I will begin taking deposits from those interested in purchasing these cams soon!

well if you're willing to do a swap, a k20a2 swap would probably be better off for you. these cams were really meant for those with the a3 motor.
not trying to take away business, but that's what these cams were really made for

Chunky with these cams is the car acting like it's in VTEC mode all the time on both the intake and exhaust side? Also wondering if you are running i/h/e, or is this just the cams and tuning? How is this affecting your miles per gallon?

well, if he's on a shoestring budget, he could get the k20a3 + cams for less than what a k20a2 would cost him. The cams were basically just for anyone who a) is on a budget or b) doesn't want to have to do a swap.
well, using the old graphs as an indicator, I made 10 more WHP with VTC enabled. I hope to have a similar margin on the tuned maps.

Glad i could help out chunky.
we overlaid my old motors graph(187whp GSR) with Chunkys current graph. he had me beat everywhere, i made SLIGHTLY more whp up top , but he had me on bottom end and midrange all the way until about 8300rpms. and i mean BY ALOT. i suspect when he turns VTC on, he'll have me up top as well.
We then had a 02 RSX type S with Bolt ons get tuned right after chunky. Chunky made more peak HP than the TypeS.
not bad considering:
1) my old motor had WAY more done to it then his. He has Cams, Header, Intake, Exhaust, KPRO. still a stock block and unported head.
2) K20A3 motors are DIRT cheap compared to their Type-S counterparts. and hes making more power than one right now, WITHOUT VTC
3) This gives people with EP3s a glimmer of hope
Great to see a grass roots research and development project in the works. i know chunky has spent lots of time on this, and its good to see his hard work is paying off.

Will you be doing any work to a base RSX K20A3 motor in the near future? I ask this, because the A3 that comes in the base has a different intake manifold, and I'm interested in seeing what gains that engine can get. I'm guessing it will be very similar with slightly higher low-midrange torque numbers and lower peak hp numbers.

I'm actually working with a base RSX owner in developing a map for that car as well. The cams are installed & running on his car, we've just got a few issues to sort out and then I will have base RSX numbers to show as well. I really want to see what these cams will do in a k24 motor.

that is incredible. how are you killing the vtc. are you using adj cam gears or can u adj through kpro?

Great stuff, chunky! I'm really considering these now as a nice, cheap power option (and best of all... unless the techs open the head, they'll never know about it. LOL!
