Finally got my first Type-R

Finally got my first Type-R
Well I haven't posted in a long time since I've been a B-series guy for quite some time and mainly stayed in the EG section. Lucky for me, my line of work allows me to travel to other countries and stay there for a few years to work and live.
Well here she is, my first Type-r after owning 7 previous Hondas. It was too good to pass up for a little less than $4k and with all previous maintenance noted in the records.
2004 EP3 Civic Type-R
Yes I know the 18's that are currently on the car are quite "Fast and the Furious", but I have a plan in place to replace them soon.
Yes even my new car buddy has a black EP3 CTR in black.
I've only had the CTR about a week so I plan on doing some basic maintenance first then begin my upgrades.

HAHA, that's a good one! So far the K20A2 in it is far perkier than I anticipated and I do love the 6 speed. It seems to be right up there with my supercharged B18C1 I have back home.
I'm glad you posted on this MustClime, I would like to pick your brain on suspension upgrades in the near future. I'm a firm believer in GC/Koni yellows upgrades but here in England it's a bit different than being back in California. Plus this is my first time dealing with such a new chassis with the strut setup.

Re: Finally got my first Type-R
Just a small update, I have acquired some OEM Subaru BBS STi wheels (gold of course) 17x8 with a 53 offset. I really want to replace the 18x7 wheels that came with the car.
I am currently gaining access to a lathe/cutting machine since the centerbore for the STi wheels are 56.1 while the Type-R centerbore is 64.1. So I will have to bore some material out to get the wheels to sit safely to the hub. Hopefully I will be done cutting by the end of the week.
I just want to have a decent daily driving wheel until I get my RPF1's which I will use for my fun runs at the Nurburgring and at Spa next year. Yes, you read that right...
I will post pics when I get a chance..

ep3 suspension tec 101....do not lower it( you have the type-r that is as low as you should go)......18's are to big, stick with 17's.....not sure, does the edm ep3 type-r have lsd?...if not , get it.....bushing make a huge differerance with the usdm but yours are stiffer...but you could upgrade from there....

Re: Finally got my first Type-R
Thanks for the heads up MustClime but it already came with Eibach lowering springs on OEM shocks.
As for lowering, I plan on getting new Koni's to replace the OEM shocks and new suspension regardless.
I will try not to lower it anymore from OEM height...

Congrats on the purchase!
The EP3 was one fun car just came with the wrong engine to NA. You have the whole package which would be pretty awesome!

small update
Just a small update on my CTR, just got some parts while I was on vacation and now to find the time to install them here in the UK.
Lucky for me, I made friends with a retired Royal Navy guy and since I'm in the US Navy, we instantly became hated rivals and besties at the same time! He also happens to own a garage with lifts and all the tools I need.
Here are my new daily wheels, just test fitting them to make sure they don't rub. They are off a Subaru Sti, 17x8 with a 42 offset. I'm currently going to use 5mm spacers all around just be safe until I get my real wheels.

small update
Just got done working on my car, just a basic header install and exhaust. It was little bit of a ball ache since I'm from SoCal and never had to deal with rusted out bolts, new experince! Plus a header install on a K-series is cumbersome compared to all my previous B-series.
All that is left to do is cut off about 4 inches of piping on the muffler (since I got an RSX exhaust) then weld it back up.
New to me OEM CTR wheels with 4 new-ish tires, too sweet a deal to pass up.
Header and exhaust system out... rusted out nuts and bolts suck..
OEM versus new hotness...

Re: Finally got my first Type-R
Well, the next step is installing my KW Variant 2 suspension.
I plan on getting a K-Pro4 then tuning immediately after.
Next on the list is a new intake manifold and 70mm throttle body then a re-tune afterwards.
After that I think I will be done for a while...

Installed all my parts and wanted to see if all I added was noise. Took her to my local dyno here which I used for my stock baseline run. I was pleasantly pleased...
How she sits for this week...
And a link to my dyno run...

I got a 25 BHP gain over my stock dyno run. Now making 227 BHP, not bad for just bolt ons and no K-Pro tune...yet...

Re: Finally got my first Type-R
Nice gain! Which dyno did you use? And what other mods do you have?
First time I see an EP3 gain that much with only a different exhaust and bolt ons

same dyno
All the mods I have so far are an InJen CAI, Skunk2 header and Skunk2 Mega R exhaust (RSX version) modified to fit. Just a couple more things are planned for this car then I should be happy for while.

Nice Blue-Civic-Hybrid,
The Koni's and GCs are on the EP3 its an Si and not TypeR, but man what a difference. Todds top hats are stupid easy to adjust, but I am seeing some new things pop up on the horizon which are very nice. I have a long way to go, but the build is going nicely. I think I hit every issue possible from EPS shutting down due to a vacuum leak to wrong, incomplete or damaged parts. It definitely has been a great learning experience.
