Default vtec problem

when i'm in first gear and i hit vtec sometimes vtec won't engage. i have the vafc
engage at 5500. and then sometimes vtec will engage at 6500. and another time it engaged at 7000.it's only in first gear every other gear is fine.do you think it's the vafc connections to ecu.and also my check engine light is on it's because i have a test pipe and the o2 sensor is throwing a code. i don't know if that is the problem.could it also be oil level.thanks for any help guys.

it probably is your oil level. check it, it'll take 5 seconds.

Same thing happened to me before, and my problem was oil level.
