Question on using torque wrench
When using a torque wrench, are you supposed to set it back to 0 before setting it to the next number?
The techs at my friend's work (Chevy dealer) said that they alwasy do this..and if you dont then the wrench is not accurate.
I sure hope this isnt true, cause if it is..my whole engnine is torqued wrong!

I use a Craftsman Digitork wrench, and it only goes from 25 to 80. They tell you not to turn the dial higher or lower than these numbers

stick with the simple ones, if you've got spare cash, go snap on.

Re: Question on using torque wrench (HX_Guy)
Hey HX,
I wouldn't worry about it. Your engine bolts are torqued just fine. You don't have to go back to zero before re-adjusting the setting. Especially if you are moving up in the readings like when torquing a head.
In between using the wrench,it probably is a good idea to set it to zero or at least a fairly low setting before putting it away.
BTW, what does the sign in your avatar say?
John

Re: Question on using torque wrench (HX_Guy)
I got a 30 year old craftsman torque wrench. Has been set on 85 for 4 years now. I took it to Snap-On truck to be tested. Mine was the most accurate of the ones tested at 30,60, and 90 settings. 3 brand new Snap-On's weren't even close!
THANKS DAD (r.i.p.) for the tools and tips.

Nice, do you know that girl HX guy, or do you just get random girls to strip for you? i have a craftsmen torque wrench and i never set it back to 0, don't worry about it. Do you still have the directions? I am sure it would say to set it back to 0 in the directions somewhere.
