I just got a new 6000k hid. The kit however didn't come with relays that was clearly shown on the box. The seller told me that the relay is always faulty and it is okay to connect the 9006/original headlight plug to the ballast. I'm not familiar with electircal stuff but is this ok? is this safe? are there other options?

if youpaid for it with relays then you should get them. tel him to give you the money back for the relays or give him the whole kit back. he will get you relays.


if you don't want to go that route all you need is s30 amp 12 volt relay. one of mine just went and i got a new one. it was like 4 bucks

how would i get and install this relay? sorry.. i need some detailed info. I'm not familiar with electric connections. Help is greatly appreciated.....

i bet u they gave u a wire that connect from ballast to headlight connector straight without any fuse relay ..etc.
yes it will works, but safety is different story, when i bought my kit that was what i got, and they use that wire to show me it works, so i only ask them one question "without rely if it burn my car will u pay for my car?" and they gave me the relay kit for free.

thanks for all ur help. My seller just told me he's gonna ship it immediately. I hope it won't be a bitch to install. and what do u guys use to mount the ballast? how do i secure it tightly?

To mount it, I would use zip ties and velcro.

installing a relay is pretty simple, its basically a switch to safely power on your lights.

The thing that 'flips' the switch is your low current / not high enough current 12v Existing power wire to your lights, and when the switch is flipped, it allows for a high current power wire to reach your lights.



86 - Hook this up to the 12v Power wire at harness or a light switched 12v source
30 - hook this up to the power wire for the HID
85 - Ground
87 - Fused Source from battery.

Now this is how I would personally do it, I have NOT hooked up HID so do not know if there is an easier way, but this is definetly going to work, and will be safe. If anyone has easier instructions, please post and refer to the relay pins in the image above.

I saw this relay on the internet at http://www.suvlights.com will it be capatible with my philips ballast? thanks for that diagram i already saved it. it's very detailed. but damn too lazy and insecure of actually building one myself.

well heres the thing, you don't build one. The diagram i gave u IS the actual relay with the pins/wires on it.

Goto radio shack/pep boys anything... (screw the online purchasing for such a small part) and ask for a Automotive Bosch Type 30AMP relay AND a Wiring Harness for it.

The relay is like $3 and the Wiring Harness $2.

The wiring harness is like a socket, it plugs into those pins on my diagram, then u just connect the wires to each connection as in the diagram (ground, power, lights etc..)

Do you really need a relay? I bought the Phillips 4300 kit from Trevor and it didnt come w/ one. it just came w/ the wire the connects the ballast to the headlight socket.

You would only need a relay if your stock harness could'nt handle the current draw. I've seen the Trevor HID hookup, I think all it needed was a higher fuse rating 15amp ?.

If you feel the wires getting hot (the power ones to the hid ballast) then i would suggest getting one.

Unfortunetly I can't say if you need one or don't definetly because i simply don't have HID Hopefully someone else can answer
