ITR-00-1457

Are you supposed to use hondabond on the oil pan gasket? It does not say to in the Helms manual, but Len told me today that you should between the oil pan and the gasket, and not between the oil pan and the block. I have changed the gasket before and never used hondabond and it has never leaked. But now my motor is leaking like a civ and it is either the oil pan gasket or the rear main seal. There is definately oil around the oil pan, but it is only dripping from underneath the rear main. But there is also oil all over the bottom of the motor/suspension from it being blown around.

So hondabond or no??????

I use it on my valve cover gasket. I put a few touches on the corners. If you use it, don't glob it. Small little dabs.

I've never changed my oil pan gasket, it's due.

I was under the caR last week and noticed that it was beginning to leak. Lots of crap and oil building up on the sides of the pan.

check the bolts...they are prolly l00se...the gasket itself doesn't go "bad", the bolts/nuts have a tendency to l00sen up over time....assuming the oil is, indeed, coming from the pan.

Does the Hondabond do anything more than hold the gasket in place during installation? Maybe you got yours pinched in there or it wiggled out of place.

sure it makes a seal, and does not let ot escape. it is what holds the oin in your motor and tranny.

i have used this stuff called "gaskaginch" with great sucess on nissan oil pans that just wont hold the op gasket for more than a few weeks. keeps the gasket from walking out on you.

my 2001 accord had a bad oil pan gasket and was replaced under warranty and they used a ton of hondabond around the new oil pan gasket. but i would be careful and not use too much as some of it could squeeze into the pan itself.

I would not use any. I've heard too many stories of Hondabond on the oil pan gasket not allowing the gasket to make a perfect seal and thus causing a worse leak than what you started with. Also it's VERY VERY VERY important to torque everything in steps and in sequence, so as to not warp anything or deform or flatten any part of the gasket unevenly, which could also cause more leaks.

well guys I solved the problem, it was not the rear main seal, there was some material from the old gasket that I missed still left on the block, I removed it and put the gasket back on, without any hondabond and it seems to be all good, no oil dripping.
