Default OG Check In -- Back from the almost dead

About a year and half ago I almost wrote off my Type R in a headon collision with a novice driver at an intersection on a bright sunny day. He apparently didn't see me coming when he made his left turn. Having a car coming the other direction suddenly swerve into your path is terrifying. The crash was like an explosion. My car is caged and doesn't have airbags. And I was lucky I hit one of the lightest cars on the road today -- a Geo Metro. The damage to my car was significant but the motor was OK. But faaaaack -- my car !!! FML

I had to wrangle with the insurance company for a while. Luckily I had an adjuster that used to work in an import auto shop that knew the value of my car. The front end would need rebuilding and they authorized over 20 K to fix it because the other driver claimed fault and I was well insured and had no accident claims in over 10 years. I was relieved when I learned I didn't need to source out a shell -- they would basically reconstruct the front end as the frame was still straight (I think thanks to the roll cage). The force of the impact was so great -- the spare tire mounting screw ripped it's welded mounts right off the unibody.

Created a new front end with new J's Racing bumper, CF hood, front fenders and had their fender flares cut and moulded into the front and the rear fenders by an old school hot rod body man I met by referral from a friend of mine. I also ordered new headlights and replaced my Mugen wing with a lighter J's racing CF one. My car was at the body shop for like 14 months or something which worked out perfect for me while I waiting for the parts I ordered to be manufactured and then put on a container ship. That process takes a really long time. Thankfully the body shop kept her in the corner of the shop under a tarp until the parts came. They fully boxed the fenders front and rear for strength.-- the work is killer. It looks like a totally new car

Next is wheels and brakes. The CE28-N's I will keep as track rims as long as the Brembos I want to get fit underneath them.

Front and rear fenders are widened almost 3"

Weapons of choice 911 Turbo S (997.2) and Type R Type R for life yo!

My all motor setup. Sleeved and bored B18C5 (original motor), Mugen CAI, CNC'd IM, bored out TB, RC 440s, Skunk 2 Pro 2 cams with lightly polished head and upgraded valvetrain, forged internals, Hytech header, custom exhaust running on Hondata. No idea what it puts out in power -- but runs rich and its ******* loud and it's fast enough to still scare me. I

Sick cars! Your ITR looks factory fresh after that accident. The body shop did a hell of a job. Thanks for sharing.

WOW! Blown away that you were able to get ICBC to repair it and not write it off. That's my greatest fear.

It looks absolutely amazing right now. The molded flares was a excellent touch!

Hi Chad - at the beginning of the summer I was very seriously considering punting the kaa, but then I started working on it seriously and now it's too late for that - I'm committed to finishing it and using it hard.

Scott, who wouldn't be able to face a guy like Jonathan if I didn't get my kaa going again...

That's the spirit Scott! I have never owned a car since new as my Type R. You always hear stories of guys lamenting selling cars of their youth -- saying they would do anything to have the car back blah blah blah. I didn't want to be one of those guys. You shouldn't either!
