Default Need help with Mobil 1 oil filter ASAP!

I'm changing my oil for the first time in my 2000 ITR and pick up a Mobil 1 oil filter (part # M1-104) and a case of Mobil 1 10W-30 oil (it's hot outside so I prefer using the thicker oil). I drain my oil and when I tried to put the oil filter wrench on the filter that's in there, it didn't fit! The oil filter was bigger than the one that I bought, but the new one was the recommended size that was listed in Auto Zone's reference manual. Did I get the wrong size oil filter for my car? What size Mobil 1 filter do I need if I bought the wrong one?

I had to go ahead and put the drain plug back in and put in the fresh oil so right now I'm driving around with on the old filter and it has 3800 miles on it

Its the correct filter. The diameter may be off a little. If you have "Strong" hands then it shouldnt be any problems. haha

you might have a different brand oil filter in your car...if it's a blue filter..then it should be a honda oem filter and they're usually bigger then aftermarket ones...you'll need to find a different wrench

Well, my hands aren't strong enough apparently because I couldn't get any leverage (why is the filter on the back side of the crankcase, anyways???) from the bottom of the car Is it okay to stay with the OEM filter (now that I think about it, the last oil change was done at the dealership so it is the OEM) for another 3000 miles until I get to the next oil change? My daily driving isn't too bad according to my owner's manual definition of severe driving conditions.

Fresh oil and old filter is not the end of the world. You will be fine for now

I remember cussing my "installed in Japan" filter for better than an hour. Biznatch would not come off. A couple of 's and a mouth like a sailor will help you out greatly

Oh, try reaching from the top - always worked better for me.

Try using a belt to get it off..... If you have the space
Step 1: pretend the filter is your waist...wrap the belt around it and go through the buckle. Tighten the belt around the filter
Step 2: Reverse direction and wrap the belt around the filter again about 540 degrees.
Step 3: Tighten belt around filter and pull.

This should solve your problem.
I have a crude illustration made in paint that will help if someone can tell me how to post it.

The filter that was on my car when I first bought it was different in outer diameter than Honda filters. I don't even use a filter wrench anymore. I just use my hand to loosen it from underneath, or if it's too tight I take a piece of sandpaper and put it between the filter and my hand, and it always comes loose easily. Then I loosen it the rest of the way from up above (so oil doesn't run down my arm) and let it drop into my drain pan.

Mobil 1 filter are a waste of money. No way do they justify the $10. (*good for you if you got it cheaper*)

You should just stick with the Honda OEM ones. Just about all Honda and Acura dealers have some sort of coupons for you to buy their filter at a reduce price, sometimes, drastically reduce price. Plus, you can go to Honda to buy the oil filter since they are bascially the same, most of them at least except some 2001 and 2002 models.

I never would have thought of that. Great idea, if you don't have mechanix gloves or the like handy

A rubber dish-washing glove has always worked better than anything for me.

i did it the ghetto way I was having the hardest time getting it off, not it's not the best way prolyl not the smartest but it works if all else fails... just start hammering a screwriver into the filter and use it for leverage if u need to but... chances are tapping it in the righ place will actually loosen the filter

I don't think you can get at the filter from above. I guess it depends on your height, arm length, etc.

I have an enormous pair of channel lock pliers. It is a kick *** filter remover and has dozens of other uses like grabbing hold of something that is annoying you. Like your girlfriend.
