I've been there and done that in 2008, with State Farm (photo).

1. What's the name of the ins co writing you a check?
2. You'll need to tell them that you want to buy it back. This needs to be said to every ins co representative that you speak to.
3. They'll make you pay 25% (ish) of what they value it at.
4. You'll need to get recent sales info, to get more for it: Pretend that you had wanted to sell it before the wreck. Now pretend that you wouldn't have know how much to list it for. Go to autotrader dot com and start filling out the info, as though you were selling it. At some point you will need to list a price, but you won't want to over/under list it, right? There should be a tab or help option, that will show you recent sales. Now autotrader has given you actual sales info that you can use to get the ins co to pay up. Don't complete the listing request, hence it isn't for sale.
5. The same options are available on ebay dot com.

Providing actual sale info (not asking prices) is just some leg work that you need to do, to get the ins co to pay more.

Wow...spot weld drill holes galore. Clean removal though I'll say.

51 spot welds.
The body shop welded them, for $10 each, grinding them down and painted the bulkhead and core support. $510.00

Body Shop came up with a estimate of 10k to fix the damages from the wreck. The insurance put a value on the car around 12-13k. I hoping to hear something today or tomorrow on where they stand or what route it is going to go. They are giving me hassle about buying it back if it gets totaled. Don't know if I will be out of the R game after this or try to buy another one. There value are getting to high for me to justify. I jumped on this right away. I couldn't pass it up for 6k. But I doubt I'll find another one for under 10k.

Every time you speak to anyone at the ins co, you need to tell them that you want to buy it back.
Eventually the ins rep that is authorized to let you buy it back will call you and tell you how much they will subtract from your settlement check. Should be about $3,000, if they estimate the loss at $12,000.
You'll easily recoup your $3k when you list the parts here, or you can ask $4,000 for the complete wreck.

Still waiting on the insurance company. They haven't decided weather to fix it or total it out due to the rarity of the vehicle. I have not heard anything about buying it back yet. They are sending a appraiser to re evaluate the vehicle. I'll keep you guys posted.

It took me almost 4 weeks to get the State Farm supervisor to go to the State Farm certified body shop, where my itr was.

Then it took another 2 weeks for a claims agent to call me and verify that I wanted to buy it back.

I had my recent sales info ready, from ebay and autotrader. I emailed him the info and he came up almost $4,000, from his initial offer.

Well worth your time and effort just sucks that, as the customer, you to have to do that to get what's fair. You pay your premiums and they spend their time, and yours, nickel and diming you.

I'm glad you got them to pony up more $$.

Sucks you lost your caR!

That was in 2008.
I bought the car back, for 25% of the settlement that we agreed on.
I spent somewhere under $6,000 to get it back on the road.
I have it still.
It's at 77,000ish miles.

Will the R is back home. It was totaled out. They said I can keep her. I will be buying another Type R most likely after the holidays. I will be pulling out the engine, trans, and rims. Then selling off the car with everything else 5 lug, interior, and misc parts i had for her.
