Removing wheel locks - lost key...
Yes, I am we-todd-did. Sometime in the last few weeks, my wheel lock key wandered off. Ordinarily, I'd just order a replacement key from McGard/Acura, but 009's buyer is set to pick her up later this week, and needs the CTR wheels put on (more tread).
How can I get these bastards off without mangling the rim? I have the ID card still - do Acura dealers keep spares around? Feel free to IM instead of posting if you have a tricky way to remove them that may be good knowledge to a theif.
Good news from the weekend:
Got the new shoes on Turbo Pig. 17" Volvo 850T5R rims. Need to order new tires.
Also installed the Defi boost gauge I picked up from Leo. Was surprised to see this on my way to work:
Pat, who is tired and sore after his weekend in the garage, and pissed about the damn wheel locks

or you can go and get you a socket (youd have to find the size) and hammer it on the take the lugz off. there a bitch to get out and you'd better use a socket that j00 can take back cause j00 will break it. i've lost my key and this worked for me.

Cool... First call will be to the local Acura shack. If that fails, I'll beat the snot out of it

If the dealership cant do it (which Im sure they can) hammer a 12pt socket on with as much leverage as possible (breaker bar) and you should be golden.

Re: Removing wheel locks - lost key... (newgsrdriver)
There's a tool that some dealers have that functions as a "master key" for wheel locks. They should be able to get it off that way.
In 1991, I had my NSX in for service at an out-of-town dealer (not my own). When I picked the car up, they complained that they didn't have the wheel lock key and had to use this tool to get the wheels off. I asked them why they didn't just use the key. It was the ONLY THING in the glove compartment, so it should have been very easy for them to find. They looked very sheepish when they realized where it was.

Took it to the local Acura joint - they had a set of master keys. Service droid claimed there were 25 in all. Then they charged me to do it
Still was less than breaking two or three sockets though, and it only took them a few minutes. Bad part was I then had to buy a new set of locks for the future owner
Bad enough he lives in NY - I figure a car without wheel locks would be shoeless quickly
Pat, who saw an 850T5R sedan drive by while he was waiting

Yep, that is where I learned this trick. The University of DTC. The wheel lock break kit works good as long as the sockets (like a regular socket but with a smooth inside) are newer. But I did break alot of locks off with 6pt and 12pt oversized sockets. You just have to be VERY careful not to hit your wheel swith the dang hammer.
