track brake pad has surface crack - safe to use?
this crack has developed on one of my track pads. the crack is on the surface only and does not pass through the pad. is this normal wear? is the pad safe to keep using?

Cracked pads are not good. the material could seperate and then you have none.
Buy another set and be safe.

[wise man talk]Brake pads aren't cheap but they're one of the cheaper items in the expensive hobby of autoxing/road racing/etc
if you're in doubt, get new pads
don't take the risk, cuz if the risk turns into reality...it's already to late[/wise man talk]

Re: track brake pad has surface crack - safe to use? (baonest)
Already responded in detail to the original e-mail inquiry: pads are fine to use going forward.
For baonest...if you use the brakes hard, then regardless of compound, those pads probably won't last, as brake pads will wear more rapidly as they become thinner. Furthermore, if that is the indicated thickness on your outer pad, then your inner pad is probably 10-15% thinner than the outer pad, due to the design of single-sided piston OE caliper.
