is 9400 safe to rev to
Would it be safe to rev a stock itr motor to 9400. This is a daily driven, the only time it would see it that high is at the track. I was just wondering if it would be safe or not.

Well yea, but this is going in a EG hatchback, so it would be obd1 running on a pr3 or chipped p28 not sure it.

I'd like to know the reason you would like to rev that high? If you have cams that actually make power that high, then im assuming you would have a motor built for it, So my answer to you is no.

well, my buddy had a motor built with a mugen ECU and it redlined 9500.
I just don't understand why you guys intend on reving so high when the power doesn't improve all that much.

i've taken my stock R motor to 9400 a few times. full bolt on and a nice header.
vafc peak rpm verified. not just 9400 indicated on the cluster. and that was years ago. motor still runs fine to this day.
prolly stopped makin power a tad before 9...but i was runnin on the freeway wasn't paying attention til i looked at the vafc was like
then did it quite a few more times.
lesson. dont rev that high it wont make u power

you are taking a big chance with valve overfloat.. an i believe the stock bottom end can't handle revs pass 9500rpms..
8700 rpms should be more then enough, except if you upgrade cams and valvetrain, then i believe you can do 9200 rpms all day long

That's what I like to hear! My valve train is aftermarket...my bottom end is aftermarket. Once the cams are in in the next couple weeks, I'll get it tuned and I can asure you, I'll be doing close to what your doing. I'll probably set my fuel cut off around 8300rpm and my rev limiter at 8400. I really don't see a need to go much higher considering it takes the engine much much more work to make any noticable, usable power.

Still though...I'm so paranoid about breaking something I feel it's not even worth it to risk revving higher than stock settings. I daily drive this thing so I simply cannot take any chances...even if I happen to make 5hp more up top.

Best to wait until you can afford to blow it up again
Figure out what the sputtering/misfire was? Are you waiting for distributor parts?

I've narrowed it down to the ignition system. All my testing was yielded great numbers. I'll be replacing the cap and rotor here shortly along with letting the distributor sit in the sunlight to evaporate any moisture that may be in there.
