Weird OBD1/OBD2 Wiring Anomaly
So im trying to swap an OBD2 gsr engine into my obd1 gsr shell. My only hang up is the Alternator wiring. In my 94 gsr, the original wiring harness for the alternator has BLK/YLW, WHT/BLUE, WHT/GRN, WHT/RED. now the plug i cut from an OBD2 alternator harness also has BLK/YLW, WHT/BLU, WHT/GRN, and WHT RED. Now from everything ive found online, the OBD1 alternator harness should have a just blue wire, and a WHT/YLW, blk/ylw, and wht/blu and the OBD2 should have the colors i mentioned before. Why does my OEM harness from 94 have obd2 colors for the Alt?
OBD-1 to OBD2 / OBD2 to OBD-1 alternator
This scenerio happens when using an OBD1 engine in an OBD2 vehicle and vice versa.
When adapting an OBD2 alternator plug to OBD1 engine harness and vice versa follow this chart:
OBD1 – OBD2 plug
blue to white/red
black/yellow to black/yellow
white/blue to white/blue
white/yellow to white/green
Heres my OBD1 Plug see the colors
OBD2 Plug same colors
94 harness with same colors
How i wired the OBD2 plug into the OBD1 harness, since theyre the same color thats how i wired it. Any opinions greatly welcomed!
