White Smoke . Replaced CAT + New Exhaust - Ideas?
I recently started having some problems with my DC2. It had low exhaust pressure and blew out some white smoke sometimes. So i was told by H-T that it was my CAT clogged up. So i bought a turbo exhaust and wacked the insides out of my cat.
NOW, its still smoking. White, not black. Never smoked b4, untill recently. What would make it smoke white? It is starting to smoke constantly now, all the time, at idle, at higher rpms, everything. If im driving normal and come to a red light, a big cloud of smoke comes out and looks/smells horrible.
Anyone have some ideas what could be causing this white smoke? Its a stock b18b1 with cat-back exhaust and gsr trans. Nothing else on it atm.
The only problems atm with the car, is that a bolt is broken off into the head. And idk if this is having any problem with the smoke. BUT its leaking from the cam seal going everywhere.

White smoke means burning antifreeze, which could be a blown head gasket. That bolt wouldn't have anything to do with antifreeze, it's head/cam-related which is sealed from any antifreeze besides at the headgasket which is unrelated to that bolt.
*edit - ^beat me to it... but like he said, check if you're losing anitifreeze and check your antifreeze for oil in it (supposed to look milky white).

Um, my overflow was empty. But i went 4 months without filling it, through out the entire 100degree + summer weather.
Would it make sense for it to be a sometimes white smoke and not constant? I had a feeling it was the head gasket but im too lazy to fix it.

what is the coolant level at in your radiator? have someone rev the car while you stand behind it to smell the smoke. coolant has a very distinct scent.
the fact that it smokes all the time makes me think it's a headgasket issue. mine did just this and a full head job fixed it.

--- I can smell the exhaust just sittign in my car and having the wind blow it in. And to what it smells like, ****. dunno the lvl atm, ill check tomorrow.
It smokes white sometimes, and black the other times. I think, my edjucated guess. Like usually @ idle its black and after driving or while driving white smoke.

black would be gas. white would be coolant. and i'm sure you know what gas smells like so coolant would be my best guess with the information provided.

um, when my car was @ idle. it felt like a person was on the other end blowing. I took it to the shop when i got my exhuast welded on. and they said that it is running a bit hot, and is possibly blocked up but not fully.

ya, i checked my oil to see if any coolent was mixing with oil. and nothign was present. so im takling a blown head gasket out of the picture. a couple of my honda goers said it could be running rich. and the fuel build up would make it smoke hardcore white.

wow...that sucks...ummm....i didn't know that running rich would cause much white smoke....from what i know if you're running rich...often white smoke would exit the exhaust when you start the car and you throttle it hard...have you gotten a chance to check the head gasket?

If you say there's black smoke and it eats a lot of gas the logical guess would be running rich, but not sure why you say it smokes black at idle and white other times - maybe you just haven't looked close enough. What have you changed on the car recently that could have caused a change in the fuel consumption and was it recently tuned or has it been a while? Does the bumper have black sooty stuff around the muffler tip?

Um, the only thing i changed was the valve cover gasket, the right side cam seals, the left side cam seal. then just the other day, cleared out my cat, and put turbo exhuast on.

car is bone stock, so never tuned. The rear bumper does have a bit of black soot on it, but its normal from the random beatings etc.
the car alawys had a problem of a laggy throttle responce. from 1k to 3k it was slow @ bulding rpms, just thought it was the cat.

then the smoke would be from burnt oil and therefore blue.

When you say a big cloud of smoke comes out that smells horrible,
does it linger in the air for a while, or disappear quickly?
If it was coolant, you'd only see it at the back of your car when driving,
it wouldn't leave any kind of trail behind.
And you will definitely smell it when you burn oil, plus it stays in the air for a while.
