I get this weird smell when i run my car, smells KIND of like ubber burning but part of it doesnt smell like that, it is really strong, and usualy happens when i really pound on the gas. I have only smelled this once before and it was the smell a new clutch and flywheel were being broken in... and seeing that i have an auto, its not that

I'm not exactly sure of what it smells like, but is your car lacking to gain power like right out of gear?

Are you at 5k on your tach, in drive, and crawling, those are telltale signs.

The torque converter itself won't smell. If your tranny is going out, you may smell burnt trans fluid. Is it slipping?

its not slipping or anything, and im not lacking any sort of power at all, my oil level is good, im not burning oil, my distributer cap and rotor are about 6 months old, I dont think my tranny is going, but i havent check the fluid or had it checked up, and every once in a while it just refuses to shift. Any other suggestions? Couldit be my alternator working overtime when i rev in the upper 5k's and sending too much current to the battery or something?

refuse to shift every once in a while is more likely a valve body problem than the torque converter. Change your fluid and check for any vanish/sludge by looking into the filler hole with a flash light.

Even better take a few oz of the old fluid and send them in for oil analysis (blackstone and butler are good companies for doing that).

They can tell whether you have excessive wear (metal particles, in part per million), the oxydation of oil (how coked it is), and the viscosity (how thick).

The combination of those can tell you whether it is your clutch pack, cooling, bearing, torque converter, or whatever is worn out. Or it is ok but your fluid is cooked, or nothing is wrong at all.

Well worth the $20 or so for your peace of mind.

i had this same problem with my last car, turns out the tranny was starting to go out, you can buy some time by having the valves inside the tranny, adjusted ( thats what they did for me and it would work perfect for a month or so) but you are looking at a tranny rebuild down the road
