Default Water Leak in DC2 Driver Footwell, but only sometimes

I have a rather sporadic water leak in my driver's side footwell. This does not happen every time that it rains or the roads are wet. In fact it could pour one day and there is no leak. Then in a light rain, my footwell is soaked. With the sporadic nature of this leak, I typically find the evidence a day or two after exposure to water. This means that I have not identified the leak path.

My current thought on the issue is that there is a piece of paper or similar substance floating in my evaporator housing. If that item seals the drain, the housing overflows water into the footwell instead of draining. Of course this item is mobile, so it would only happen sometimes.

My question is how could I clean the eveporator housing without removing the refrigerant? Also, does water from the cowl drain into the evaporator housing when the car is sitting?

Does it leak every time that it rains or the road is wet?

I have been thinking about the evaporator housing drain. Perhaps if I insert a perforated tube up the drain hose I will avoid any future blockage issues. The housing flooded for certain one time in the past due to a blocked drain. I blew air up the drain hose at that point to free the blockage and released about a quart of water.

Just to clarify, I think that the drain hose on part #5 is getting blocked.

hey it could be your sunroof if your car has one. the whole sunroof Assembly sits on a trade that catches the water that sips through the the sunroof opening, this trade has a tube on each corner that drain the water down. they run through the front pillars and the rear pillars and down by the end of the of the trunk, the problem is that they get unhook and water drains inside the car....... i hope that helps

I currently have paper towels strategically placed around the footwell. If it does leak, hopefully I can trace the source. These sporadic problems are frustrating.

I had a leak there. I pulled the offending tail light and applied RTV around the perimeter with the gasket. The leak went away.

I found the source a few months ago. The sunroof drain tube was not fully seated. Problem solved.
