Default Type R LMA for Type R cams

So will I need the Type R lost motion assemblies to run the type R cams? Ive heard that with the bigger cams that the stock gsr LMAs dont have enough movement and bottom out, causing the cams to be put in a bind and specifically breaking.

GS-R's and ITR's use the same lost motion assemblies.

Here's another question...Does the B16A and the ITR use the same LMAs?

Nope, ITR is it's own LCAs, and allow for more clearance. You normally don't need to upgrade the LCAs unless A) you have an old B16 head and plan to rev it high with Type R cams or B) you run aftermarket cams with an even higher lift & duration, which can ultimately cause your stock LCAs to collapse and fail, and putting the stress on your cams and causing them to break.

Alright thanks. I'll be sticking to the stock gsr's unless I decide that those are worn out, which they might be with 150k on them. BTW, worn LMAs can cause excessive valvetrain noise

damn, Carland Acura's site is wrong then.

So how does one go about replacing lost motion assemblies? And somebody please explain exactly what they do because I'm not real clear on that. I know my friend's SOHC VTEC valvetrain has the LMA's above the cam instead of below the cams like our cars.

Carland acura has the same part #s for both gsr's and type Rs on almost everything, including pistons, rods, etc. LMAs keep your VTEC rocker arm from flopping around like a loose dick when vtec isnt engaged. I believe that one you take the rocker arms out that they should just fall out. BTW, on your friends civic it probably doesnt have enough room to have the LMAs below the rockers like ours.

finally found it in my bookmarks... looks like you have to remove the rocker assembly as mentioned.

I've been running CTR's for a year or so on a stock valvetrain with no problems, I'm yet to come across anyone on ht that has broken R cams just because of the LMA's
