Transmission Problem 5th Gear and Reverse
I just got a 96 gsr and the transmission is having problems going into 5th gear and reverse.
it actually won't go in at all.. is the transmisison f*ck'd? or is the shift linkage bad?
I replaced and examined the shift linkage and it seems to be fine.(ruling that out)
any ideas H-T?

Re: Transmission Problem 5th Gear and Reverse
It does sounds like a linkage problem, as 5th and reverse are on the right of the shifter and not really related to each other inside the transmission. Reverse has it's own gear.
Try both with the engine on and off.

Re: Transmission Problem 5th Gear and Reverse
I test drove a B18a CR-X once that had the same problem. I was told it was the syncros. Supposedly 5th and R share the same syncro or something of that nature. Some one verify? I've never been inside one to know.

5th and reverse do share a synchro. If you ever take one apart just look at the stacks, and watch when you put it in reverse.

Re: Transmission Problem 5th Gear and Reverse
Shift fork or the shift change assembly. If it can't go into a gear and is stiff, that means the shift fork is either bent or the gear shift assembly isn't pushing the fork right
