Screeching metal on metal noise at 3500 rpm?
Its a 98 LS 5spd with 100,000 miles.
The noise only occurs at around 3500 rpm, when driving and when parked, it sounds like it is comming from behind the engine somewhere, but I can't confirm that.
I took it all the way up to 5000rpm and the sound does not occur anywhere else in the rpm range just at 3500ish. Doesn't matter if the car is cold or warmed up either.
No idea what it could be. Any ideas?

Def a heat shield. My old 92 had a broken one on the CAT and at 3K it resoninated like a mo fo... Check them all out, one of the nut welted corners prob broke off

i had the same problem until it just went away. i was told that it might be my timing belt because my car has 90k mi. the same day i heard the sound it went away after i heard a loud thunk noise and i havent had the problem again.

Mine same thing around 3k rpm. Heat shield. Now the same noise is coming back, but I think it is the upper part of the heat shield. Around the cat that is.
