Default 94 Acura Integra redlines at 3500 RPM's help please...

I have a Fully Built motor that we put together and put in here, I also put a gsr ecu that i bought from someone here on Honda-tech. I want to go get it tuned, but don't if this is something that might need to be taken care of before i take it to get tuned, I don't know if the ecu is bad, or if its because maybe the timing is off. check out the video and maybe you can help me out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpgmoOoDba4

Check the temp sensor, its located between the vtec solinoid and dist. its the little black plug thats skinny and long plugs into a lil pin, if its not conected right you wont go past 3500 rpm because the motor will not read full temp and thus keap you out of vtec.

Either your in limp mode, thus the CEL, or the ECU was chipped, and there is a launch setting @ 3.5k

Why is the check engine light on? Usually, you check that before posting. That might tell you what's up.

My EM1 was doing that. I think it was the CYP sensor. It's a distributor sensor. A new Distributor fixed the issue.

Find out why the CEL is on.

Thats what I was thinking. Launch control a 3500. IS the ecu and obd1 p72? If so take the top cover of and see if its chipped. If its an obd2 ecu just throw out the chipped ecu theory.

Some of us have chipped OBDII ECUs.

OP, pull the CEL codes at let it tell you why it is not working.

I dont even want to get into that. I dont consider replacing the mcu chipping it. When you replace the mcu all your doing is tricking sensors, but with an obd1 flash based or chip based setup you sending a signal directly from the ecu to the engine.

Did you see the last thread when I was having a creative discussion with someone about it? Lol

When I did it in 2002, it was more cost effective.

Funny how its less cost effective now. So one thing I've always wondered about that. Will your car pass emissions? I've never been able to find a straight answer. I guess a better question is does your car throw any codes as a result of the non stock mapping?

Its something I'm looking into to try to get my car to pass.

My car passed both the sniff and OBD scan tests for emissions. It is still an OBDIIa ECU. I have an '96 37820-P72-A02 ECU chipped with a Spoon clone ITR chip. It smoothed the major valley in my torque curve with the ITR cams by raising the VTEC. The total cost in 2002 was $250, including the Ebay ECU. I did have to wire an RPM switch for the IAB.

Good deal. I've been worried about running a built motor on a stock ecu just to pass. Here they don't sniff test, they just scan for codes. Now I'm thinking running a modified mcu is an option. Thanks for your information. Nothing beats talking to someone thats done it before.

Thanks for the help, I'm going to check the temp sensor and connected the car to a scanner to see why the check engine light is on this weekend.

You merely need a paper clip. The scanner is more informative if you have it.

what year engine? are you using a jumper harness? same thing was happing to my friends crx, (we also thought it was in limp mode) i got in the passenger seat for a test drive and accidentally stepped on the harness and all was good. took a few tries to relize that stepping on it is what made it go over 3500 ha G/L
