Default Oil Pan Gasket's Suck

Anyone know how to stop and oil pan gasket from leaking. I have replaced it twice and everytime it leaks. I use hondabond and torque the bolts to the right specs and I start tighting in the center and work out. It is really starting to **** me off.

Is your oil pan bent or punctured somewhere? I replaced my oil pan and gasket with some hondabond and it worked fine. After I drove it for a bit I re-tightened the bolts though.

Yeah, sounds like the oil pan's f*cked. Moroso makes a "performance" oil pan for tegs but I'm sure it's probably expensive as hell. BTW if it's bent, even a little, there is a 99.9% chance you need a new one. The other 0.1% is a dent somewhere other than the lip that did not shift everything, or a one in a million chance that you actually straightened it back out perfectly.

You can find oil pans at junk yards too so you don't have to pay for a new one.

you are suposed to use something else besides honda bond for oil pan gaskets. I forgot the name but its like honda bond but its not grey and its made for oil pan gaskets. I use the factory cork gasket and it works well. Thats how it was designed to work.

your not supposed to use anything to seal the oil pan gasket to the block. You just have to tq the nuts/bolts in order and i think 9lbs each. I used this method when i busted open my oil pan and had to replace it

i had the gsr moroso pan on my 00 si when i had it. it is nice because it holds more oil, is designed for no starvation in turns and is real nice if you are turbo. 350 or so from summit and well worth the money.

I have read some places say to use some kind of sealant and others say dont use any. Just with the gasket on and no sealant does it seal.

96 helms says nothing about using sealant on the oil pan gasket. Just tighten the bolts in sequence to the spec.

Newer hels tells you, one needs honda bond on certain areas. and TORQUE the bolts. Use a beam torque wrench.

yes it seals with no sealnt , hence the name gasket. thats what it does, it seals.
i never use anytihng on the oil pan gaskets, and the honda dealers dont either.

A valve cover gasket is a gasket and it needs sealant around the corners. Yes some gaskets need sealant.

i used soem kind of gasket sealant that came in a copper tube and it works fine of course the gasket i used was a rubber gasket and i think needed it more than the factory cork gasket. i just feel better knowing it is sealed up real nice and tight. i dont think ill be taking it back off again. i ony took it off so i could get my pan tapped for the oil return line for turbo. if i ever go back to n/a i have a special plug for the retun fitting so i still dont have to take it back off.
