few months ago i notticed my oil light blink about 3 minutes after i started driving.
turned the car off and back on it went away, checked oil once i got to work it was fine.


today same thing happened. after about 3-5 minutes the oil light started blinking, i pulled into autozone and got some oil thinking it was empty, only needed one bottle to top it off to normal level.
started driving and again within few minutes the light came on blinking again.

shut the car off and back on for a second and it was gone again.


yesterday i notticed a strange thing, my car was dropping pretty low on idle, almost to the point of dying, but pull back up to normal idle right after that. did it on every stop light or whenever i push the clutch in it would drop all the way to 600 and back to normal.

i havent done any work on it recently or put new parts. just drive it to work and back.

it runs fine otherwise
about 170k on the engine.

Oil pump possibly on it's way west.

I would want to monitor oil pressure right away, if the oil pump goes the result can be very bad and expensive to fix. 94

could also be a plugged oil pick-up
check pressure manually with a gauge. and do it asap. as mentioned, it will wreak havoc if not tended to.

the oil pan is not dented and theres not much sludge in the engine. i do the oil change on the regular. but while i had the coolant leak the engine overheated once or twice so that might have done something

The oil pump isn't always what causes low oil pressure. The pump itself does not create pressure, it move a set volume of oil, not a set pressure. When your engine gets old and worn out, the oil passages get bigger, thus the oil doesn't have as much pressure. My point is its not always the oil pump, it could be your passages. There is no fix for big worn out oil passages. Just something to think about, its possible but unlikely

what oil passages are you talking about? i dont understand.

the oil is not abrasive material how canpassages get bigger?

just check pressure with a gauge. then go from there..

will hooking up an oil gauge throw off the voltage from the oil pressure sensor?

What do ya mean? If you put a aftermarket gauge in the oil light will be on since its no longer hooked up. Test the pressure with a manual gauge. Mine did that twice. First time cam lobe wore thru a rocker and plugged the pump. Second time it was the screws on the pump late that just came loose
