Default No heat and cars overheating

Ok last week my car was overheating because there was no fluid in the radiator( hose had a hole in it replaced it) ok now here and there my car gets in the 180 to 220 degree around and lately I'm always having to let air out of the system . Last night my radiator hose blew off and my heat was blowing cold air so I bought a new hose and replaced it and I added straight water .. Car was idleing for about 5 minutes and still no heat so I took it for a spin overheating new suddenly my heat is working and the car is not overheating. Now this morning I drive the car to work and no heat engine is overheating I've already Added water and it's holding it's not leaking. If it was the water pump would I hear it? And would it build up pressure?

If it was water pump you would usually have a leak it would come out of the little hole in the water pump. I would suggest checking the oil to see if you have water and oil mixing might have blown head gasket.

Change your thermostat. It is stuck on close position. Water pump have nothing to do with the heat core at all. No heat means you dont have coolant going into your heat core hence thermostat issue. Flush your system and make sure all hoses and clamps are tight. Check for defective radiator cap as well.

I would say put a new rad cap on it, sometimes they fail and it pressurizes the system and has your symptoms. If that doesn't fix it throw in a new thermostat and it should fix it.

This is the correct answer. Also be sure you bleed the system once you fill it to get any air out.

Put in a new thermostat for cheap and a new rad cap and a 50/50 mix of coolant and water and you should be warm and toasty.

first of all, putting straight water in your copper core radiator is just bad. drain that sucker and put 50/50 in it. i dont know how bad the snow is at your place but i wouldn't put water and 50/50. when you do that, bleed your system for air.

also, since you had your car overheat, hopefully the head gasket didn't get toasted. i'd ask someone to check though just in case.
