Default NEW thermostat...Still reaching 190-200 temp reading.

I just put in the second NEW thermo and it still seems like it getting hot it reads it getting hotter (we let it get to 210 then we shut it down) but what is weird is that the thermo is set to open at 180 degrees and it doesnt??

The upper RAD hose is hot but the lower one isnt like the thermo isnt opening and ideas what my problem is..

Well if you put in a brand new thermostat, did you make sure the jiggle pin was facing up. So that air could be bled past the thermostat. ALso try bleeding the air out of your cooling system by letting it run with your radiator cap open. But only do this if you dont have a vent for the coolant on like the upper radiator hose metal housing. some cars have them some dont. But try that if you are still haveing over heating probs. Start maybe thinking about a blown headgasket. Do a leakdown test. you can buy a leakdown tester for like 50 bucks. and if you have any ?'s on how to use it. let me know, hope this helps bro. good luck

Thermostat is fully open at 194* Fan kicks on at 196-203* A/C Fan kicks on for "overheating" issues at like 217* In most cases the car will hoover around 190 on the highway/constant speed situations (where you have plenty of airflow over the radiator). In the city/sitting/no air movement the car will generally bounce from 210 to 180 to 210 (and repeat).

We took out the radiator when we replaced the head gasket. Nothings cloging the system. But we got some good info. Hot steam wont open the thermo. Only hot water. And we didnt fill the engine before finishing all the cooling system, only the radiator. So there is no water in the block.

Were gonna fill the engine.... Then put the thermo back on. And of course get rid of the air in the system.

Thansk for the info guys.

FYI Its not my car. But it lives in my garage.. lol

Air will naturally rise to the top, thus the engine will fill with fluid. You might get some air pockets, but not to the point that you're talking about.

Ok we flushed the system and checked the thermostat it opens around 190-195 and the fan kicked on at about 215..But it was fine for a minute then it stopped flowing again no pressure in the lower radiator hose..

Is it possible my water pump is bad or going BAD...What is the best way to check if its bad..

With what/where are you measuring these temperatures? I'm assuming that when it "stopped flowing" it hadn't dropped the temperature below what the thermo would close at? How are you measuring flow? Is the lower hose crushing? Is the system pressurizing like it should be (bad radiator cap)? If it doesnt pressurize then you have a higher chance that the lower hose is being crushed and limiting flow.

The lower hose is not getting hot and we have to pump the lower hose to get the radiator to dump water down when the thermo opens..I have an aftermarket temp gauge that im reading the temps on..

The reason I ask abou the gauge is that depending on where you installed it, the temperate can vary on it compared to where the thermo/fans are suppose to open/kick on. Thus, what might be 230 on your gauge is 212 on the ECT sensor in the thermohousing. Anyway, Im not real sure what to make of it at this point....maybe you should try leaving the thermostat out and give that a shot.

OK..I took off the water pump and BAY AREA BALLER found out that its a P75 water pump for an LS. Could this be the whole reason why my **** is so messed up...

Because when i hit up my local auto store there is a diffrence between the GSR and LS pump.

Ok guys.... *** what Pauly (0260) just said. We checked an online store with good pics. We do have a GSR water pump. It seems that the prop is iddentical. But the gears are different. The GSR has 22 teeth. The LS has 19 teeth. And ours has 22 teeth.

Were currently bolting it back on, and off to Walmart for a new cap... Just praying that that was the reason.

Heres the website. Big clear pics http://www.autopartsworld.com
