Morning Starting Issues!!
Good evening HT,
I've been here lots and researched many solutions from here when I had to do something to my car, but I can't seem to find an answer for this so I'll explain my dilemma and hopefully we can come up with something.
The car is a 00 Civic SiR, 170,000km with a B18C1 w/ 98 ITR LSD tranny. Has a S2 intake, S2 TB, full exhaust. I recently redid the valve seals, replaced the coil, did a compression test which read 185 for all 4 cylinders. Timing is good.
So the issue isn't that bad yet, but I'm looking to sell it, so she needs to be tip top before I can part with it. Once the engine is stone cold, at least after 6 hours, especially in the morning, it is a rough start. It starts up instantly (always has) but it struggles to stay alive. It bogs and sputters, on the verge of stalling, so I give it gas and hold it at 15-2k rpm for a little while then let it go slow, then it will drop down to a normal idle and start to warm up. The first few seconds of me holding down the gas it is sputtering and sounds a little like misfiring, but then it smooths out pretty quick. The first few blocks before the car is fully warm, there will be a little bit of hesitation and tugging while lightly accelerating but nothing too crazy. Also I smell a little bit of fuel during the start up/light revving, like it's running extremely rich (as it should a little, determined by the ECT I''m guessing).
I've cleaned and tested the IACV
Attemped to clean the FICV, but doesn't have one because the S2 intake has it integrated in the TB.
I've tested the ECT, both the connector and the sensor. I'm so lost.. I thought for sure it was the ECT malfunctioning thinking the car was already warm so it gave an incorrect amount of fuel.
My next ideas, possibly ICM and O2 sensor. I did all those other things because of other peoples issues off various forums and websites, but their 'rough start' usually meant barely turning over or cranking over for a long time, but that isn't my case.
THANK YOU for reading all of this, and please share any ideas you may have, hopefully I'm on the right track.
