How-to: Rebuilding a '98 to '01 Power Steering (PS) Pump
This is a follow-up to my previous post on how to rebuild a '94 to '97 power steering pump. It's very similar in overall steps and concept, but there are a few minor differences that makes the '98+ pump a simpler design.

I also can't remember which one has the more expensive parts, but I think it was the '98+ pumps.
Tools used:
1.) Snap ring pliers
2.) Drivers or impact sockets
3.) 1/2" drive Impact gun
4.) 1/2" drive 19mm impact socket
5.) 3/8" drive Impact gun
6.) 3/8" drive 12mm impact socket
7.) Small sledgehammer
8.) 3/8" drive 6" extension
9.) 1/2" drive 27mm impact deep socket
10.) 1/2" drive 22mm impact deep socket
11.) flange puller (with two M8x1.25 bolts)
1.) Press seal in.
2.) Insert washer, radiused side facing the seal.
3.) Press shaft and bearing into housing using a 27mm deep socket until the bearing is below the circumferential groove on the inside of the housing.
4.) Install snap ring.
5.) Install o-rings
No o-rings:
O-rings installed:
6.) Install front plate with the o-rings facing the bearing. I believe it should snap into place with a little bit of a push to seat the o-rings.
O-rings seated when you lift out the housing.
7.) Install rotor/vane housing with the round and oblong pin holes matching.
8.) Install rotor and vanes with the radiused side of the vanes facing the outwards.
9.) Install rear plate with round and oblong pin holes matching.
10.) Install gasket and dowel pins on rear cover.
11.) Install rear cover and torque to spec.
12.) Finished.

It's been a while, but if I remember it correctly, everything but the shaft seal pretty much spills out after you remove the c-clip on the front and the 4 flange bolts for the back cover.
The seal has to be pried out with a screwdriver or maybe knocked out at an angle from the back.

Great thread, very helpful, having a probable pump leak myself.
Actually, it does spills out on the 97 model due to the spring, but not on the 98+(no spring).
I've opened up mine yesterday and having trouble to get the pump drive shaft(with bearing on) out...
Can i ask how did you manage to get it out ?
I've tried to tap gently from the rear side with a rubber hammer, no luck... didn't want to break someting.
Could someone help with this matter ?
Thank you
