Default How Do you Replace A Core Support?

I was thinking of picking up a 93 integra and i was wondering if its worth it to replace the core support because the integra is $700? Also I was wondering if its easy enough to DIY? Can anybody give me a link to a thread or something on how to do it

it has to be cut out and rewelded, its a cumbersome task if you never did it before

it's not that hard to do as long as you have some mechanical knowledge. first you'll need to get you hands on some spot-weld cutters. they're actually drill bit's that are specifically designed to cut spot welds. they're kinda expensive, probably run around 25-30 a piece, you could do the job with one, but i'd get two just in case. next take off the front bumper and fenders and locate all of the spot welds in the core support, i think they're something like 30 or so of them. just use a drill, put the spot weld cutter in the center of the spot weld and go to town. it's going to take a while, but it's not hard. make sure that you don't drill completely through the frame, because you'll need to reattach the replacement support. once the old supports off, line the new one up and have someone that's at least decent with welding, weld the new support on. might wanna pick up some seam-sealer to reseal anything if need be. for $700, i think it's worth it as long as it runs strong...plus it'll be a learning experience.

here's a link to a similar core support replacement...you'll get the idea
