how can i get a softer ride?
Ok, here's my problem. Every time i hit a pot hole or any unleveled ground my car makes a real loud boom. Is that normal? Its like going over a big curb. I have some generic coilovers, stock shocks, skunk2 camber kit and some 17s. If i replace with some better suspension, is that gonna eliminate the loud boom every time i hit a pot hole? how can i get a softer ride with a aftermarket kit?

you'll prob get a loud boom if it's a really big hole and you're going too fast no matter what. It also depends on how low you are. If you're stock shocks are wearing down you'll have a better ride with new shocks. I have koni yellows and the ride is really smooth on the softest setting with my eibach sportlines. I always drive around with the front closer to soft and the back to stiff. hth

The suspension and tires contribute to your ride quailty. How low are you with those generic coilovers? Could it be possible that your stock shocks are blown making it a rougher ride?

I would say your shocks are blown.
If your stuts are newer and your sure they're not blow you may be smashing
into your bump stops, because a) they were not trimmied or b) you have the car dumped.

If your looking for a softer ride, I would loses the generic coilovers
and get a quality set or quality lowering spring.

i want to stick with coilovers. ground control is what im leaning on. if i get tokico blues with ground control, would that possibly solve my problem? or should i get adjustable shocks instead?

If you want a soft ride, buy a buick.
For the most part, any aftermarket "performance" spring/"coil over" that you buy will have an increased spring rate over stock springs.

Also, ditch the 17's. I'm guessing that your tires have hardly any sidewall at all which will give a VERY harsh ride.
What size and type of tires do you have?

What the 'buick' setup? hahaha... sorry I had too.

hmm Azenis Sports don't come in that size I don't think, you must have the non-performance version of the Azenis.
I also get a loud noise on bumps etc. w/ my Koni adj. shocks and H&R springs. I can tell you the shocks are NOT blown. If you're low enough you could be bottoming out the suspension.

im pretty sure its not your coil overs, its either how high (or low) they are and the current state of your shocks. I'm guessing they are worn out more than a 1920s french *****, and the "thud" you're hearing is when the coils smack against each other (NOT a safe thing to be happening as it can damage the coils). I suggest you take it to a shop who can tell u if the shocks are blown or not and replace them with an adjustable shock (KYB AGX -> $290ish, Tokico Illumina -> $330ish, Koni Yellow -> $450 and up).

its too bad.. you have to pick, bad ride, look low.. or stock ride, look high... smaller the drop, better the ride usually.. until you get into the really good and expensive stuff

Re: (DartDC2)
the noise could also very likely be your camber kit. if you go too low with that kit, the square edges around the adjusting part come into contact with the underside of your shocktower area(when you hit a really big bump). just look in your engine bay right around the shocks, there would be a bump on each side where the camber kit is hitting the metal, or if its really bad, it could be a hole. if thats the case either deal with it or raise your car a little or ditch the kit.
oh and get rid of the generic coils and get some adj. shocks. skunk2 coils with tokico illuminas are the ****

i know for sure its not my camber kit. i dont see any dents or paint chip under the hood. my car is lowered about 2 inches in the front. still have a little wheel gap. i will go have my shocks check to see if its blown.
thanks for ur help guys!

He didn't say look for dents on the actual underside of the hood, he meant pop your hood and look for dents on the shock tower area. If you don't know where this is, I could explain it to you in more detail. You can also look at the tip of your skunk2 control arms and see if theres missing paint or black gunk on it from under the wheel well. I'm almost positive that its not blown shocks but your control arms banging instead. Its a very common problem, you have too much suspension travel for your ride height, you can either raise the front or get bumpstops.
