High Idle problem

High Idle problem
When I start the car, the engine idle is fine. Around 1400 and drops when it warms up. The problem occurs when I go for a drive and come back home. When I put the tranny in neutral or park, the idle goes up to 2000 RPM and it stays there. If I turn the car off and turn it back on, it goes back to normal idle...until I put it into neutral then back to park. What could be causing this? Its my dad's oldskool 89 Integra RS...trying to sell it. Any help appreciated.

Re: High Idle problem (kanzdj1)
So are you saying that the motor is bad? By the computer I assume you mean ECU right? Need more help. Thanks
BTW: Where is the IACV located on this car anyway?

Re: High Idle problem (kanzdj1)
is this only when the engine is cold? where do you live? cold climate? have you checked to see if maybe the throttle cable is just sticking?
quite frankly if the car is 15 years old, 2000rpm cold idle is not a big deal - i woudln't bother (1700rpm cold is still normal spec i think). if this is warm idle then that's different.

Re: High Idle problem (kablamo)
Well I did some more search, etc. It seems like the throttle cable is sticking. Is it called the "throttle plate" where the cable is wound onto? Well the throttle plate gets stuck down a little when you give the car gas. Hence the high idle.
How do you fix this problem. I turn the nut hoding the throttle plate in...but not sure if that did anything. How do you loosen the throttle cable? Thanks.
BTW: I own a 240sx and work on it alot. Sorry for these newb-*** questions. I was recommended by a buddy of mine to come check this board out. Im just not too famaliar with Hondas and I dont want to break anything either. Seems like pretty knowledgable guys. My board is full of pitty flame thrwoing. Dont see too much flaming going on here...for now. I just need to fix this car for my dad to sell. Thanks for the help guys.
