Help! Weird cricketlike chirping sound, clutch related.
Just bought a 99 Gsr with 87K miles. I have noticed this constant sound that sounds like a noise made by a squeaky belt or some kricket in the engine bay only when clutch is depressed. Once clutch is pushed in to a certain point the noise will subside until clutch is released again. Not super loud but it has become annoying to me cause any unusual noise drives me crazy. Clutch feels pretty normal except for a small amount of tapping feedback to your foot when you are about half way to the floor. Can anyone help me out with what you think it may be. I hope it is not too costly to fix. Thanks, Allen

i think its the throwout bearing or pilot bearing.

well if i fix it, i alone will fix it...
just gotta pop the axles
remove everything from transmission
support engine
unbolt transmission and drop it

They're going to have to take out the whole tranny just to do the little bearing inside. After all that I'd go ahead and upgrade my clutch while it's all out. The most complicated engine work I had done was replacing a master cylinder (not even engine work, I know) and I did my clutch install by myself. Doesn't really take any special tools, just time.

what that is my friend is your values...welcome to the world of vtec and dohc....my does the same thing especially when I push the clutch in it gets quiet.....the more engine work you do it will get louder....

same problem here too...........just like stated before, might as well replace your whole clutch assembly. that's what I'm gonna do

yea that happened to my teg when i first got it. My bro-in-law installed an act clutch and i couldnt figure out if it was the ceramic getting glazed or one of those bearings
