h20 pump/timing belt change
alright, so i've had my car long enough now to do the waterpump and timing belt again. so the installation went smoothly, until i went to fired it up. the old belt was very tight, but i think some of that may be due to it starting to crack and tighten up from use. so after i installed the new belt, tensioner, and waterpump and fired it up, i noticed a fairly loud tapping sound coming from the belt side. almost as if a valve needed adjusted. so i took the v/c off and check the valve clearances on the valves again. all were within spec. so i started it up again, and the noise is back again. after the engine idled down the noise quieted down a bit. after i revved it up again, the noise came back. i cant tell where its coming from, it sounds like it its def. coming from the belt side. also the fact that it didnt do it before the install, leads me to believe its something from that side. so we tore it all down again, and reinstalled it twice. noise is still present. engine doesnt run any differently, just noise. i noticed the belt does have some slack on the waterpump side. we tried to take out the slack but the tensioner is adjusted for its maximum tension. i dont think we could get any more out of it. what is the limits for flex of the timing belt? im not sure what else to do to get more tension in the belt with the tensioner at its max. thats the only thing i think the noise could be coming from.
also, this install was with all oem parts

Re: h20 pump/timing belt change (danteisme)
i dont think the tensioner should be at its max. my timing belt has some slack on the water pump side and it makes the same noise as a mis-adjusted valve but when i took a closer look at it, it was just the slack of the belt flapping around. been driving it for over a year and its been fine. hasn't cause any problems
