griniding/scraping noise in 1st/2nd/3rd gear....
what up fellas... My dad seems to think I have a bad bearing in my tranny... when the clutch pedal is RELEASED, i get a sort of knocking scraping grinding kinda noise... stops as soon as the clutch is engaged... also, when I'm driving regularly... from about 2.5-3k on in 1st/2nd/3rd gear it starts doing the same noise... with more scraping... pretty sure it's my tranny... any other ideas??

A grinding and knocking noise might suggest that a bearing is significantly damaged. A slight grinding/chafing noise usually indicates that there's a moderate amount of wear, but otherwise still in one piece.
If it's making the noise while the clutch is engaged and not making the noise when the clutch is disengaged, then it's probably a bearing inside of the transmission. It could be any one or a combination of the bearings inside the transmission.
All of the transmissions I've seen with worn diff, housing, and/or shaft bearings usually have other wear issues (ie: shift forks, synchro sleeves, etc.) I recommend at least having a look at that stuff too.

just replace the throw-out bearing, and use the one that is oem for that tranny. if the tranny is'nt a type r, dont put a r one in there. it wont make you faster.

hrmm... is this a kinda thing i can fix or do i need a new tranny?? keep in mind I want to make it as reliable as possible.. and its gunna be 300ish hp... im thinking about getting an aftermarket LSD put in mine, maybe rebuild... or get an OEM lsd...
any other comments on what it could be, how to fix it, etc .?
