Check your oil ASAP. The oil light is an 'idiot light,' meaning there is extremely low pressure when it comes on, it is very bad meaning check it now. Please do before you spin a bearing or score your cylinders!

Actually on tegs, the oil pressure switch completes a circuit to the ICU that either blinks the oil light (momentary loss of oil pressure) or turns the oil light on solid (sustained oil pressure of less than 4.5 lbs or so). So if you ever see your oil light comes on, stop immediately to see if you have oil. As our cars get older, the ICU's begin to fail, as well as other switches and wiring, and false oil pressure warning lights can come on periodically.

I had my light coming on, but I had plenty of oil. So I bought an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, and my pressure is perfect. Turns out the oil light was coming on because of the faulty ICU. I think an idiot light that only operates when the oil pressure is below 4.5 lbs is kinda useful at best. Damage can occur well befor 4.5 lbs, especially while driving on a freeway. Get a gauge when oil pressure is concerned.
