Icon4 Re: ECU AND ABS CODES HERE!

My 1998 Honda Accord 2.3L came-up with a P1773 engine code a few weeks ago. After desperately trying to locate a source for the lower left B solenoid I find out some Honda dealerships are still selling the defective 28500-P6H-003 solenoids to customers and not the new 28500-P6H-013 solenoid. I was able to locate one for as low as $21.96 USD, but I couldn't wait 5 more days for delivery and ended-up buying one locally from CarQuest for $115 - I really need my car to get to work! I had a local garage I trust flush the tranny fluid and replace it, as well as have a Honda 06250-PAX-010 external inline tranny filter installed, and then I easily changed the solenoid, cleared the code and it was working fine for the past few weeks. Yesterday I got the same error code again and the tranny started acting funny, like it wouldn't shift properly and I had to drive the car like it had a manual valve body in the tranny. It's been fine since then, but I'm wondering if the other cheap solenoid needs to be replaced, or maybe the lock-up solenoid, solenoid A, the solenoid lockup-set, or the TCU unit could be damaged. Any ideas? Also, where can I buy another one of Honda's 06250-PAX-010 external filter kits? I can't seem to find these anywhere, not even from the dealership. Thank you.

Well here you go....find out! CELs, although hated, are much better than a problem coming up without a CEL, at least you can pinpoint the problem, so be thankful!

---------------------------------How to check your CEL code----------------------------------
On the passenger side of your car, under the dash beneath the glove box, you will find a green cover above the kickpanel that houses a blue connector that has two wires.

All that you need to do is turn the ignition off, and using the piece of wire or paperclip, jump the blue connector so that you connect the two wires together. Basically stick one end of the paperclip or peice of wire into one prong on the connector and stick the other end of the paperclip or wire into the other prong.

Once you have done this, turn the key to the IGN position and watch your CEL light. It will illuminate in a series of flashes.

You will notice that there will be LONG flashes and SHORT flashes. All of the ECU trouble codes are two-digits. LONG flashes determine the TENS digit by the number of times it flashes, and SHORT flashes determine the ONES digit by the number of times it flashes.

ie. LONG-LONG-LONG-SHORT-SHORT-SHORT-SHORT-PAUSE

is the trouble code: 34

3 LONG flashes followed by 4 short flashes, then a long pause. If that is the only code the ECU is throwing, then the code will simply repeat until you remove the key. If, however there are more than one ECU error code, then you will see a different series of flashes followed by the long pause. Once all the ECU codes have been displayed, they will continuously cycle until you remove the key.

ie. LONG-LONG-SHORT-PAUSE-LONG-LONG-LONG-LONG-SHORT-SHORT-SHORT-PAUSE

is the trouble code: 21 and 43

If your car is 1996 or newer, you can plug in an OBD-2 code reader. It displays a letter followed by a 4-digit number. Each flashing-light code is covered by a couple OBD-2 codes, so they're a little more specific. For example 63 (2nd O2 sensor) might be P0137 (low voltage), P0138 (high voltage), or P0139 (slow response).

Now that your peptalk is over here you go...

94-97 ABS CODES (thanks to JimBlake):

You pull these codes the same way you pull check-engine codes, but it's the ABS light that's blinking. Here's the sequence...

Insert the jumper, then turn on the key.
Long (2sec.) flash - long (2sec.) pause - this isn't the code yet.
Short flashes for the first digit of the code - 1sec. pause - short flashes for the 2nd digit.
Long (5-second) pause, then the next code.

(94-97) ABS DTCs...
1 - ABS pump motor over-run
1 2 ABS pump motor
1 3 high pressure leakage
1 4 pressure switch
1 8 high pressure system
2 1 parking brake
3 1 pulser RF
3 2 pulser LF
3 4 pulser RR
3 8 pulser LR
3 12 different diameter tires
4 1 wheel sensor RF
4 2 wheel sensor LF
4 4 wheel sensor RR
4 8 wheel sensor LR
5 - rear wheel lock - R/L
5 4 rear wheel lock - R
5 8 rear wheel lock - L
6 - fail-safe relay - F/R
6 1 fail-safe relay - F
6 4 fail-safe relay - R
7 1 solenoid - RF
7 2 solenoid - LF
7 4 solenoid - R
8 1 ABS function
8 2 CPU comparison
8 4 IC self-check

There's NO long flashes, it's all short flashes with short & long pauses in between.

Beginning in '98 there's a whole different ABS system, with a different list of codes.

98+ CODES (thanks to 2000GSRT)

11 - wheel senor (open/short to body ground/short to power) FR

I try to leave the cable disconnected for as long as humanly possible before driving again. Usually overnight works. When you reconnect it let your car idle for about 5-10 minutes or until its at regular operating temperature. It helps the system get a better read of exactly how your engine and its components are working for optimal performance.
So to reset the ecu all you do is remove the negative cable???
Would removing the ecu fuse be the same thing???

Thanks for the Codes, now if I can figure out why there is a random miss fire on Cylinders 1 and 2 (Codes 71 & 72) I'll be in good shape.

Just a thought, check all of your injector plugs, make sure that they are plugged in all the way. Then disconnect the posi cable, from your battery, for at least 30 seconds. This will reset your ecu.

I have had this happen to me before. I hope this helps you out, GOOD LUCK

Re: Code P0301 Misfire on Cylinder 1.. Help

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope I am not hijacking the tread, but my 2000 Accord (2.3L) also has the CEL that comes on now and then and when checked, it's the same code. What puzzles me is that I have changed ALL the basics except the fuel filter and injectors. My car has 220k, runs fine, but has deminished MPG's and sometimes at idle, it sounds like my wires are crossed (other times, when cold and at random, it sounds great). Every once in a while, coming to a stoplight, it acts as if it's going to die at idle and is idling even more rough.... anyway, I can continue rambling about it, can anyone enlighten me?

Thank you ALL in advance.

Clem

This thread saved me hundreds of dollars it turns out all I need was a wheel sensor.

Was going to replace both hubs!
Could the wheel sensor damage from letting the calipers hand on the abs line? That's what my cousin did when we were swapping trannies.

I was checking the CEL code , got a 12- EGR code-
and started the 93 Accord,
the D4 light flashed 1 long and 5 short.

What is this?
Thank you!

Yes, there are codes for the SRS and ABS that are retireved in the same manner.

Ok, I have a question. Is this for obd0 as well? My friend told me to lift the passenger side carpet and there's an led light there that's supposed to blink the codes at me. Is that correct or do I need to use a jumper like this instructed? I've got a 1990 integra, stock everything as far as I know. Lowered and exhaust is it.

CEL 45- Fuel system too rich/lean
90- Evap Emission control system leak detected in fuel tank area
ABS 81- Central Processing Unit

Neat. haha.
