Default DC shifter in the DA

Okay, so I got some polywhatever bushings and a JDM GSR shifter, install went really well, that bushing by the tranny was a beeze to put in though. So I get everything in and I start the reverse process of putting it all back together and hit a snag. I try and link up the new shifter to the linkage that connects to the tranny and the bottom of the shifter is WAY longer than the stock DA one so it won't fit. Has anyone put in a DC shifter and what did you do to correct the problem? I was thinking about just bending the linkage out until I get the GSR linkage, but I don't want to hurt my car.... Thanks in advance. any and all opinions are greatly appreciated.
