crunching noise in first and second gears
i have a 2000 gsr with 78,000 miles on it. When i drive in first gear up to 3500 rpm, it makes a crunching noise which i think the noise is coming from the gear box. If i shift into second at 3500 rpm, it makes a longer crunching noise. My friend ( who has a itr ) said it might be the synchros. I would like to know how to fix this problem. Other than that it runs great. FYI-- the clutch and shifter is all stock. Got the car stock two weeks ago. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: crunching noise in first and second gears (Mickaisy)
Sounds like your synchro's are very worn. Where did you buy the car? I hope not from a private party. Did you test-drive the car at all before you bought it? If your synchro's are worn out in the first few gears (or any for that matter), it's going to require a professional tear-down of your transmission. If you don't know much about transmissions yourself I suggest you take it to a reputable shop and see if they can diagnose exactly what it is. You may be looking at around a $400-500 repair if it is the synchro's

thanks for the help. I did test drive the car as well as my two friends who run and own their own shop. It definitely did not make the noise until a couple of weeks after i bought it. Thanks again.

Actually it'll cost more than 400-500 bucks for a rebuild at a reputable shop. A tranny is more complicated than an engine so it's a more involving rebuild. Your better off spending $400-600 for a new GSR tranny.
