Default Can't decide if the theromstat is stuck or not

I can start the car up in the morning and it will run for 10 minutes and barely have warm air and the temp needle doesn't move. I can drive 10 more minutes after that and while I have hot air, the temp needle barely moves. Now if I drive for about 30 minutes the temp needle will go to a little to the left/middle but it takes a while and most of the time the temp needle doesn't go much past the cold line. Stuck open or just because REALLY cold out?

Those are symptoms of a stuck open Thermostat. Take it out and inspect it.

Thanks, that is my thoughts as well. Just needed to hear someone else say it. I'll be getting one from Honda today after work.

Just changed it. Haven't driven it yet but it got up to temps pretty good idling. Who knows...Thermostat that came out was off-centered and had no part number. Possibly not OEM? It was closed though when it came out and went into the trash.

yeah iirc the oem tstats have the temp they open on them in degrees C. you did the right thing getting a new oem one.

where are you located? last year i had my coolant/water mixture off a bit and we had a day that was like -10 and it sort of froze up the tstat. with the way this winter is cold make sure you have at least a 50/50 mix

NC/SC line

Don't say that, I had jug of 50/50 mix in it but had to put a little water in it because I ran out of coolant. I would think it will be ok.

Did you use distilled water?

No I was reading online and distilled water is not what you want to use. The best thing to use is soft water but if you cannot get your hands on any then tap water will work.

Also this solved my problem, car is normal now. Bad thermostat and I'm assuming it wasn't OEM. Always go OEM thermostat IMO

Why would you not use distilled water?

Tap water will cause scale because it has minerals and other chemicals in it. That can and will cause problems.

Bottom of the page. 2nd point.

I'm pretty sure the little amount I put in with the 50/50 antifreeze will be fine.

Not sure where I read the article, sorry.

Yeah. A little minerals and chlorine never hurt any raw aluminum surface that I can remember.

Or...wait....

you might be fine. Probably will still cause scale. Your car, though. I think when you read the article, you transposed the word "not" to another place.

"Do not use mineral/tap/drinking water" turned into "Do use that ****, boyeeeee. Loord hav mercy".

Your sarcasm is cute, no really it is. You are more than welcome to come over and "correct" my errors sweetie.
