Default Burning smell from brakes/rotors
i am thinking this smell is related to needing new brakes? it is like a burnt plastic smell...

I'm guessing the smell is your brake pads. It can have any of several causes; your brake pads may be too thin (although they normally start to squeal at that point), your caliper may be stuck/seized, etc. Definitely check it out.

^ def a caliper issue.

Pull it off and check things out. Do you notice the car pulling to one side or the other when you brake?
