B16 vs b18
So I'm looking to do a few upgrades to my DA and I want to know if getting a B16 motor will be a upgrade or a downgrade. I know if you get a b16 tranny it will have shorter shifts instead of the regular b18 tranny but is it worth it or should I just stick to my regular tranny? Also what are the pros and cons on these motors. Any suggestions and info would be helpful.

I have a Gsr b18c1 and the tranny is pretty good the gears are about prefect, alil shorter then a b16 tanny, I thank anyway. If you have B18 I would stick with that and just build it, althought the b16a2 is very nice but I just believe you could get more hp out of a b18 motor.

Just build your B18. If you are good with the keyboard, and are a bargin hunter, you could probably source and buy everything you need to build a ls/vtec with your $1000.

Yeah I was thinking this too. But what about the tranny? I need a new one cause my 2nd and 3rd are messed up. Should I just rebuild or get a B16 tranny?

Re: B16 vs b18
depends what you wanna do? you wanna go faster? or just cruz with what you got? your tranny is bad rite so i would say get a tranny first. gsr(if your on the highway alot), b16(if you dont mind having your rpm at 3500-4000rpm). both trannies are good. b16 if you were leaning towards racing, but with a gsr you can go either way.
also, my uncle put a b16 in his da and it was slower than his ls, because b16 had no torque. da's are pretty heavy so they need that extra torque to get them moving.

Re: B16 vs b18
I personally wouldn't waste the money putting a b16 in anything but an EF or an EG hatch, but that's just my opinion I don't like the low torque.
I put a b16 LSD tranny in my DA with the b18a and it was like having a whole new car I'll never use an LS tranny again. It's high rpm's on the freeway but I haven't noticed much of a gas mileage difference, although I'm sure over time the engine won't like cruising around at 4k rpm all the time. Next project... JDM b16 1-4 gears with the LS 5th

Re: B16 vs b18
nothing wrong with a B16 in a DA. I had a 91 I put a B16 in, I liked the shorter gearing and the sound of vtec. Might not have been any faster, but I liked it way more than the stock motor/trans. It just felt more fun to play with.

Re: B16 vs b18
This is an easy question, just go to g2ic.com and find the "who is disappointed with their b16 swap" thread.
Like others have said, build your b18a1 and go for a b16/b17 trans.

Re: B16 vs b18
If you put the b16 engine and tranny than it will be a little faster than an ls engine with an ls tranny. The shorter gearing makes up for the lack of torque. The 99-00 civic SI's had b16's and they weigh about the same as a DA integra. So it will be faster, but maybe not worth the money you spend.

Re: B16 vs b18
please do not buy a b16a, just buy a b20z and call it a day! besides all your parts perfectly match the b20 and on top of matching they actually add more hp to it. think of a b18b with 1834cc and 9.2 comp makes 142hp. the b20z as a block and head is exactly a b18b with more bore thats all, so with the intake manifold, exhaust manifold,ls cams and gears, ecu of an ls and 138more cc 0.4 more comp your going to get something like 156hp in stock form not to mention around 140tq. simply check yahoo for an article hybrid garage did on this with the b20z! or just search b20z integra swap and see what people have to say. see with 30lbs more tq, 25% more dissplacement, much more stroke the b16 stands no chance! and also remember that you need to wire up vtec and **** which means more work, the b16 also costs more, and finally the 1gen b16 is on average a 90 model engine vs a b20z is on average an 00= 10 years newer plus originally driven by women, family men in there crv's when a b16 is driven in everyday raped sir's.
conclusion: b20= cheaper, easier to install, requires nothing but the longblock to work good, is newer, probably healthier, works with every ls part you have,is just as fast as a b16a and can be vteced later on if your not satisifed when the b16 cant be double vteced now can it?

Re: B16 vs b18
Once modded I was able to take em' out alot easier.
99-00 Civic Si's are over rated, and no they're not fast.
Mine was a 2gen Integra 4dr btw.

Re: B16 vs b18
did you guys miss the part where he needs a trans bc his 2nd and 3rd gear are shot? He needs a whole swap.
If it were me, i'd just get a GSR swap and call it a day. Swaps have been going stupid cheap in these times, saw one the other day for $1500obo.
