Default ATTN: ndustryalGSR ... I've found the leak!!!

Hey chris, we have the same car...with the same part replacement...from brake, clutch master/slave cylin., cam seal to oil pan gasket, Fluidyne radiator etc..and now that stupid oil leak...I've found a cure..

The leak is actually NOT the oil pan gasket..duh, I replaced that **** for nothing. It's actually the CAM SEAL...no, well yes...the cam seal near the distributor was leaking on that side too but it was replaced with STR seal and cured that problem. Well this leak was on the timing belt side...and it turned out there are two more seal on the cam lobes. Yes, it's a bitch cuz everything has to come out..I had the Acura certified master mechanic did it for $50...whew! My car is good as new. I hope this will help you diagnose/solve your oil leak problem. I'm 99% sure your leak is the same place as mine..don't even brother with the oil pan gasket.

John --

Thanks for the heads-up. I was just about to replace my oil pan gasket, too. I almost bought one today. Who'd you have do your work? I'm going to be in Houston next week, Thursday - Sunday. Do you think he'd be able to work me in? For $50, I'd be happy handing it off to someone else to fix.

Thanks again.

Chris,
I'm not sure what his (the mechanic) schedule is. He does this as a side job. It takes about approx 2-3 hrs to do it. If he is not busy, you can just pull the car in and get it done. He charges $25/hr labor (as compared to $80/hr charged by the dealer). I was charged $50 since the car was "opened" to replace some other craps so it doesn't take the whole 3 hrs...In your case, it'll probably be 3 hrs. And guess what, he'll work on your car at the same dealer/with the same tools etc as the restof the unfortunate packs who goes through the dealer up in the front. I've witnessed him working on many projects (and my car) and I'm totally satisfy with his excellent workmanship. Give me a call at 713-822-5644 and I'll introduce him to you. By the way, parts is extra...you can bring your own or he'll have to buy it from the dealer's parts dept...either way...

Halo: typical dealer price is $80/hr x 2.5 to 3 hrs .... you do the math.

From what I hear, those cam seals just wear down and go every so many miles, though it usually takes time, every so many years/miles or so.
When I bought my `94, my mechanic replaced the rear main seal and the cam seals. It had 84,000 miles on it.
