question..new synchros needed?
WHen I shift out of 4th into 5th, around 6500+rpm, I get a grind, and it won't go into 5th nicely. This has also happens when I shift from 2nd to 4th (rev up higher in 2nd, match revs into 4th).
I know that my clutch master/slave cylinders aren't in great shape, and are leaking a tiny bit (not enough for me to have to add more fluid). Could this be the reason why I am getting this grinding?
When I get my new clutch..should I pay the extra money and get new synchros, or just get the clutch/master/slave cylinders and hope it was the problem?
thanks!
-Lee-hopes he doesn't need synchros..

Re: question..new synchros needed? (LeeChun GSR)
well, i thought replacing my clutch master and slave cylinders would help but it didn't, i also replaced my clutch and it didn't help so now i'm pretty sure my synchros are on it's way out, but i still got a good few thousand miles left on them before they're totally shot...... i think if you're gonna have the labor to drop your tranny already might as well replace those synchros...... and tell me how much it costs too cuz i'm gonna need to do that soon

Re: question..new synchros needed? (LeeChun GSR)
do you hear any noises at high rpms? like rattling or tumling a metal part in a can? I just did mine last week, and by then I could double shift it fine up and down into 3,4 and 5th. -but the springs were toast on the clutchdisc.. I had figured I had bad syncros.
shifts easy now with the new clutch.
hope it your clutch and not a transmission issue.
could be your clutch cylinder too.... hope not, but that is an easy replacement.

Re: question..new synchros needed? (01GSR)
i thought it was fine to skip gears??
no, it doesn't rattle at high RPMs..it's during the shift. If I shift into 5th at 110mph or around there, then it'll pop out, and I have to reduce speed, rev match(like always)..

Re: question..new synchros needed? (keys)
i was quoted 3550 for a GSR clutch, synchros, and rebuild (recommended from dealer as synchros get in the tranny, destroying components or something, and this is not even replacing the gears..)!!!!
sounds like i need to sell the car if it's going to cost that much..

However, if you are tooling around at 2k, skipping 3rd and downshifting to 2nd is not going to be a problem at all, for the engine or the tranny.
