Default Advanced timing in a GSR

Why do people do this.. ? should i do this to my 99 GSR.. i know it has something to do with the distributor... ? how do i do this ?

I've seen so many timing questions in the past week, don't even try to tell me you used the search! If you're N/A it's not a bad idea because of two things. It's free, and easy. There's a lot of info on this page: http://integra.vtec.net/engine/timing.html read it.

after advancing the timing
do u guys leave the pin that goes to the thing near the ecu.
