98 GSR spitting, sputtering, wont start!!! HELP PLEASE
My wifes GSR has been acting out lately!!! She went to work the week no problems came out to go to home car started up fine went to back out and the car cut right off and wouldnt start back up. I got there had to jump it when it finally started it wouldn't rev up it spit and sputtered back fired thru the IM and exhaust, smelled of raw gas!!! It finally cleared up enough to get to the local parts store so I could get the battery and alt. checked out. Alt. good battery bad so I replaced the battery with a yellow top optima dry cell car started up fine everything checked out fine. Next day car starts up and spits and sputters all the way down the road to work. She goes to leave saturday car wont start i go out later car starts no problems. She leaves to go to work today no problems starting but its spitting sputtering and cut off in the middle of the intersection and almost gets rearended had to roll start it. I havent had the codes checked but the CEL stays on because of a few mods that we have done to the car and have been on there for years! Someone please help me figure this out before something happens to my wife and her car!!!

I would first check out the cel.
I had an issue that was like this before when the cat busted out and clogged up the exhaust.
What are the mods?

IM from dpine.
dpine (10:37 AM 9/22/2008): I know you have soem from the mods you have
dpine (10:37 AM 9/22/2008): but you may have one more.
dpine (10:38 AM 9/22/2008): what do the grounds look like on the starter and battery and corrosponding ends?
dpine (10:42 AM 9/22/2008): might be the ignition switch going bad as well. I had that start happening with the last EG I had. the car would some times start and would have a hard time starting when it was hot and hot out side. When it would not start I would put the key in the ignition and push up on the key/key cylinder and the car would start every time. but the battery dying is a good sigh that there is a ground going bad or loose connection some where. Also with the car shutting off abruptly could have caused the timing to jump a tooth or 2. Don;t ask how I know it happed to my brothers old EF hatch.

I just called her and told her to pay attention to how she is turning the key in the switch.
I replaced the ground cable about a year ago because it was croded (my spelling sucks), the termal had some on it when I replaced the battery but all nasty like before Ill replace just to make sure as well look at all the rest.

J I don't think its a fuel pump issue. I think its a grounding/wiring issue some where.
