Icon2 Is a 5-lug conversion worth it?

I was wondering what you guys thought... Is there a large enough difference in the braking power to notice it? Im having to put new rotors and pads, and was just wondering what you guys think.. Besides I think that some CTR champ/wht wheels would look good on my slammed Thunder Grey Metallic painted teg.

also I thought just thought about this? I have function and form type 1 coilovers. Would these coilovers be swappable with the type r 5-lug conversion? I heard that the LS and Type R's have different suspension setups...

i once thought of doing the conversion but i didnt want to anymore...why? because i dont track my car and it was just for looks. if you want to do it for looks then be my guess. for some, its a waste of money and for others, its worth it. function or fashion... you pick.

If your doing if for JDM style awesome. Performance with more options (the better reason) totally go for it. Both, just do it

Nope, not worth it at all. You can easily get ITR-spec brakes while still retaining your 4x100 hubs for way less money than the full 5-lug swap.

Integra 11" kit $630: http://www.fastbrakes.com/ProductDet...DC+11+inch+kit

Or for $120 more you can go up to 12.2" rotors with 4-pot Wilwood calipers (requires 16" or larger wheels): http://www.fastbrakes.com/ProductDet...tegra+140+6163

i don't think so. stockers work just fine for me. and if you like to rotate your own tires, just think, thats another 4 lugnuts to loosen and tighten!

yea, ill probably just upgrade my current rotors and pads.. It was just going to be for show, but now looking at the pricing options I think I'll stick with my 4-lug. Thanks guys. And any more opinions?

Nope, the 5 lugs won't do anything for you.

As for bigger brakes (regardless of the number of lugs), keep in mind that no brakes will give you any greater stopping power than your tires can handle. If you want better stopping power on the street, the first step to take is to get better, stickier tires. A more aggressive pad compound would be the second step. And a higher temperature brake fluid is the third step to take. And none of these steps requires changing the calipers or rotors. Do all of these things, and you'll probably find that you don't need to change the calipers or rotors at all. Not for street use, anyway.

If you track your car, the big reason for big brakes is to manage the heat of the brakes, more so than for stopping power - IOW to prevent the brakes from getting too hot and cracking rotors too often. And even on the track, your best bet is to take other, less drastic measures first (e.g. pads designed for the racetrack), and only upgrade calipers/rotors if you're still having problems.

The only unique advantage of the 5-lug is a wider rear wheel bearing. I voted no.

well.. it all depends on what u want out of ur car... i went 5 lug for the better rim choice. most nice rare wheels are either 5x144.3 or 4x114.3. also 5 lug usally some in 36mm hubs which mean u can use skock k-series axels when kswaped. Or stock h-series axels when h-swapped. another advantage is that nsx calipers are a derect bolt on. there is no need for custom brakets.

I voted yes. I managed to get a great deal on my JDM ITR 36mm setup with ITR wheels.. love it.

rear control arms are different on itr's compared to all other integras (gsr\ls\gs) and by swapping the control arm for the conversion you would probably need new rear shocks

it's not worth it

You do not need to swap the control arms.

The CTR/ITR brakes do weigh alot more than the factory brakes. With that little bit more meat, there is less brake fade, which no one has mentioned yet. Also, the fact that having a facotry brake setup lets you pick up aftermarker parts from most part stores.

A trip to autozone or napa for a rebuild kit for Wilwood 4-pot calipers would be a waste. Factory 98-spec ITR on the other hand...

I just can't get over people saying its just for looks. Wow.

LOL, especially if you do it by hand...

IMO, it opens up your world for a different selection of rims. (5-lug compared to 4-lugs.) I wouldn't get it though...to pricey. I also, nevermind. ShwanC beat me to it with weight.

I did it back in 2004 form a JDM ITR that won the 24hrs race. I see better selection on wheels and bigger brakes. What sucks is my conversion don't use bushing it use ball berring instead. I'm runing SSR Type C that weight in 11lbs each for 17".
