Default whats the most boost i can run safe on a b16

i have a 2000 honda civic ex. with a d16y8. i just bought a b16 swap and i wanna turbo it.... i wanna get as much power as i can. but i still want my car to dependable....whats the most, and yet still safe lbs of boost i can run

he probably just phrased it wrong. a lot of people who are new to turbo cars see everything in psi, like can this engine take 14psi? as if it's the holy end all. usually they are just asking how much hp the engine can make. with a b16 that's 280-300whp if you want to keep it alive. more if you crank it up and get a shorter life.

i hate qeustions like this. google was invented for a reason. on top of that boost is irrelevant. 14 psi on a small turbo is not the same as 14 psi on a 35r

In the beginning it took me quite a few weeks of reading before things started to make sense. Especially if you come across old articles that still talk about FMU and missing links you're going to get really confused really quick. If I didn't happen to come across that link in my sig it would have taken me that much longer to sort it out.

Me personally, I would go high 200 because of the higher cr, higher cylinder pressure,and stock pistons

The amount of boost is arbitrary, it's the torque and whp numbers you should be concerned about.

Being that different turbos make different power at the same pressure level, the level of pressure measured at the MAP sensor (boost) is most of the time, irrelevant. The key is choosing a turbo that will match a certain power goal, and run it in its "sweet spot" of its efficiency range. Don't just base it on psi alone. It may take a little T25 turbo 20 psi to make 250 whp, and it may take a big GT-35R 10 psi to make that same power.

The general rule of thumb associated with these stock B16 motors, is a safe and reliable whp level of 275 to 325, and has been done countless times, with no issues. Make sure your motor is healthy, compression and leakdown wise, choose a turbo that will match your goal, discuss this goal with your tuner, and he will use whatever psi your setup will give him to make that power goal. Make sure your tuner is very reputable, and a good tune will make a stock B16 at that particular power level last a long time. Good luck.

anything less then 28 psi is safe with a t67
34 psi with t67= snap rod lol......................

280-300ish hp
Anything over that and your motor won't last very long.
Make sure to get a good engine management and a GOOD tune and your good to go

^^^ This. ^^^

I ran a stock LS turbo at 304 whp for 2 and a half years with stock head bolts, but got lucky with no issues. But MR. Johnson is right, ARP head studs ward off head lift, they're good insurance and peace of mind.

And yes, be sure to slap a new head gasket on while you're in there...
