Default What do you think of this damaged turbo?

What would cause damage like this? It's a jb garrett

The compressor wheels signicantly hit the compressor housing then locked up and is unable to turn under regular force.

Bad thrust bearing? Allowing the wheel to shift forward?

Just a wild guess from someone who knows very little about turbos... lol

The compressor housing looks ok, as long as a lot of material isn't gone and there aren't any gouges it should be fine.

it will need a new compressor wheel... and obviously a new bearing system/rebuild kit.

depending on the damage to the turbine shaft, since it locked u and could de damaged/scored or heat checked it might need to be replaced as well.

It looks like one of TheShodans turbos so ask him. until it's disassembled we can't say anything for sure.

Why are we sitting here playing guessing games? OP, answer simple questions, get a simple answer. Keep dragging it out like this, and you're only going to make people disregard you faster.

i agree with wantboost you need a new compressor wheel and new bearings and possible new compressor housing.
if your turbo has ball bearings, you need a new turbo (or new cartridge, compressor wheel and comp housing, that means better get a new turbo)

and aslo i agree this secrecy with your turbo is stupid, they only ask to find out if it is a journal or ball bearing turbo

also with a bearing kit (if it is journal) you can use the same compressor wheel and housing but expect much lower flow. I dont know how much, depends on the housing-wheel clearence.

If I knew what kind of turbo I would have posted it, in the original post.

My buddy emailed me asking me so i threw it up here to see what you all think.

I just wanted to see if I could confirm the whole thing is toast.

Thanks

I've been in touch with TheShodan, we both agree, the turbo isn't totally shot.... It can be repaired.

He'll be contacting you shortly if he hasn't already
