Default Well I figured out my overheating problem.... for those who care

I deserve a big ol for this one. When I took my head off today, I noticed that the socket was REALLY stuck on the nut for my ARP studs! Took pliers to get off! (BTW this was a deep 6 point 14mm socket)... Also when I tried to remove them, it was like a torque-wrench effect...... the ratchet would just keep clicking over. I thought my ratchet was dead.

I called a shop and asked why this is happening and they told me I needed a 12 point 1/2" socket!!!!!!

So when I was putting the head on a long time ago, I THOUGHT they were torwued down enough because my torque wrench would slip over like it was supposed to, but in reality it was the socket slipping on the nut.

Turns out my studs were torqued down less that 35 ft/lbs. F@WK me.

Well at least I figured it out.

Anyone know where to get just the nuts for the arp studs?

Jeez, thats a new one for the "Dumbest thing youve done" thread.

Why would you use a 6 point on a bolt that has 12 points and requires a torque setting?

Hope you didnt do the same thing on the rod bolts!

You're going to want to use a flatedge and make sure that the head/block are still flat. The problem you run into when you have a HG leak is the gasses actually erode the alumiumn surfaces away causing a poor sealing surface. Hopefully you won't have to pull the block to re-machine it. Are you using a composite or metal headgasket? You can sometimes get away with approaching the service limits on a composite headgasket, but forget it if you're using a metal one.

Im using a stock headgasket and plan on putting copper spray on it.

Ah, I was right that the headstuds were loose. Your problems were so similar to mine that I was 95% sure that it was the headstuds. Btw, I have do stupidier stuff. Dont sweat it, its all a learning process.
