Default Valve noise similar to lash

I Have a b16 head on a Gsr block, at idle its kinda noisy (seems to go away as soon as you start to rev). the block is freshly built and was super quiet with my old b16 head. I switched to the current head because it had supertech valve springs /w crower retainers. I have checked and rechecked valve lash, so my next guess was LMA's so i got the science of speed LMA and I have the same issue. is it possible the rocker arm assembly is just worn? or would the springs/valves possibly be the cause?

What did you set your valve lash to? You said the engine is rebuilt, what's your P2W?

Its been awhile since ive done it but used this as reference

intake 0.006 to 0.007-inch
exhuast 0.007 to 0.008-inch

for the P2w I beleive this is the gap in the top piston ring which was done at the machine shop. He used the "turbo gap" which i know he said he had to file the ring not much tho a cfew thousands of an inch i beleive

P2W is piston to wall gap, not ring gap. Are you using stock cams?

I know the rings were filed down. I have a 81.5 MM bore size which I bought the rings for that application they were then filed down. I am using GSR cams

Forget about the rings. No one is asking about rings. I'm asking about P2W clearance.

Sorry but Im not 100% sure as I did not do the work myself machine shop did all the work. I know the pistons were 81.5 MM and the block was bored accordingly I told them to spec it specifically for Turbo application as I know some of the tolerances are different but unfortunately I dont have the specifics.

Try oem LMA's and oem springs and retainers. Iv never heard of those lma's your using.

I doubt its the valve train but its worth a try. Not sure about swaping the lma's with the head still on block but you can use a speacial tool to swap out the springs and retainers without pulling the head.

thanks for the input.....They are very similar to the skunk 2 LMA's, OEM had the same issue so im pretty sure putting them back wont change anything. changing LMAS with out removing the head from block is pretty straight forward. Im most likely gonna be swapping out the head completely in about a week for this reason and just as an upgrade in general. I may make it into a build thread pretty much gonna redo everything from the head up and install my kit

hey buddie i know this is a LONG SHOT, but CHECK your oil pan for armageddon (i.e. bearings).

I just had my gsr block fully built by some shmucks (locally), it didn't last 3k miles and it spun a bearing. I swear to god the noise sounded like it was coming from the head and it would go away with a little bit of rev etc. (same exact scenario and symptoms you were describing). I thought it was the LMA's as well as i could not pin point wtf was going on. I replaced my old gsr LMAs with SOS LMAs (which are super nice btw) just to pull my oil drain and see how phucked everything was.

Before you start throwing money at your problem, i vote you drain your oil and see if you see anything that will make you cry. just my two cents bro!

Yeah well the pan will come off when I install my turbo kit. The motor has less then 2k miles and ive been changing oil about every 500 miles so no signs of that yet thanks for the pointer. The noise is not real bad at all...similar to 75% of bseries motors ive been arround. The new head is already paid for its mostly for the upgrade part of it...the noise I can live with Just curious for the most part ... Thanks for the input

IIRC, Science of Speed uses OEM Honda NSX, or H22 LMA's with washers.

Nah Havent even started it up in a couple weeks it just sits in my driveway. This was just one of those things I could never figure out. I have a CRV for my daily. I did receive my new head in the mail today so hopefully I will get to installing some new parts sometime this month. I wanted to try my new head and see how well it runs with new head and cams before installing any turbo parts.( I have a closet full of after market stuff, turbo kit and extra goodies just waiting)

2618 piston slap a bit and lower temps. You should check to see if your machine shop still has you engine build sheet.
