Default Turbo rebuild question (SC34/Garrett T3/T4 57 trim)

Unfortunately for me, the oil seal blew Which sucks. I JUST got it running. But hey, what can ya do?

I need a rebuild and I"m having problems finding a precision rebuild kit.

In this thread, I was told the SC34 (3431e)is the same as the Garrett T3/T4 57 trim.

Is that correct? I definetly want to either GET the right rurbo or be able to tell whatever company I have rebuild it exactly what I have so there are no surprises.

Here are pics...

It's says 34 31 E

If it helps any, on the compressor side, the outlet is 2"

Thanks for t3h help!

OH, BTW, it was at full boost around 3300-3500 RPM, felt great on muh lil GSR!

sounds like you have the exact same problem I did.... I'm trying to figure out what CHRA I could just slap on the housings and forget about using the oem precision seals.

Its the center section. If you unbolt the compressor and exhaust housings the middle part would be a complete CHRA or (center housing) I think its Center Housing Rotating Assembly

I agree. Know where a rebuild kit is for it?

Have you tried calling Precision? They may not sell the kit, but should be able to tell you if it uses the same parts. IIRC all precision does is buy garrett CHRA's and add their own housings, and sometimes make custom sizes with different comp wheels. Changing the journal/thrust bearing sizes & turbine shaft/wheel would not be cost-effective, since Garrett uses a good design already. All they might do is upgrade to the 360* thrust bearing.

Did you use an oil restrictor? I am jw because I have the same style turbo except it is a turbonetics, but I want to avoid the seals blowing on mine as well.

Basically just wondering what do you think caused it to blow?

The "rebuild kit" is the same as a Garrett, the only difference is that they use a 360degree thrust bearing kit (6 oil apetures) as opposed to the 270degree which is standard on garretts (4 apetures)

So it's the same rebuild as the Garrett T3/T4 57 trim, aside from the thrust bearing?
