T3/T67 vs T4/T67 - has anyone compared spoolup times and power output?
Trying to pick a turbo - has anyone tried a T3/T67 vs T4/T67 (esp a twin scroll T4) - has anyone compared spoolup times and power output? TIA!

FOR REAL, I'd love to hear about the spool times on the t3/t67 (high output) so a .82 exhaust side...thats the turbo I'm planning on running and its efficient to 700 hp

I have street tuned two cars with PT-67RLS turbochargers with P trim turbine wheels (T4/67). One was a 4G64 and the other was an 84mm GSR. On the 4G64 it saw 17lbs by 4800RPM in 3rd gear. On the 84mm GSR it saw 11lbs by 5400RPM in 4th gear. Will be tuning for more boost on the GSR once the boost controller is re-installed

what displacement motors? sorry, i come from the dubaudi world, and know absolutely nothing about Honda/DSM/Japanese stuff
Also, I assume both turbos were nonBB and T4 correct? Twin scroll/split housing?

The 4G64 was a 2.4 liter. The GSR was a 2.0 liter. Both turbochargers were ball bearing and didn't have twin scroll turbine housings. The 4G64 had a top mount exhaust manifold with a Burn's collector and the GSR had a ram horn exhaust manifold

eh not to thread jack..but I'm running a non-bb t3/t67 and a topmount manifold, on a standard bore GSR at 9.0:1, I am a tad bit afraid of when my spool time is gonna be now, lol...and I'm pretty sure its non ball bearing...I bought it from my friend and he said it was a full-race t3/t67..I read up a little and found out since it had the .82 exhaust housing it was a highoutput version...can anyone tell me more about it?

uh..yeah...not a good street turbo. I'd just build my motor to handle 9500RPM's and hope I see full boost @ 6000RPM's. Then, just maybe then you'll have decent acceleration from 5000-9500RPM's. Anything lower and you'll be NA power.

But isn't lag going to be even worse w/ a T4? I thought anyways.

It's really all about your goals. You dont need a GT42R for 500whp. And the lag isnt as bad as you would think. Maybe on a 1.6 liter. I had a GT3076RLE that made 14lbs by 4300RPM. I sold that to move to a T4 frame though

Re: (alpha)
hey guys i wanted to chime in here for a sec.
i have a 95 M3 with a 3.0 liter motor.
im running the T3/67 HO turbo
it seems really laggy. i thought i woudnt get any lag with 6 cylinders and 3 liters of displacement.
i went through my data logs im running 24 psi up top
in my logs i am achieving 16 psi by 4550 rpms and 25 psi by 6000 rpms. seems really laggy on a 6 cylinder 3.0 liter dont ya think? especially since i red line at 7k rpms and i dont have the 10k rpms like most of you guys on here.
at what psi does the T3/67 HO get into its efficiency range?
i actually miss my T3 60-1 .63 removed to install this turbo

Well I plan on revving to 10k, and I was thinking 5k-10k of full boost (18-22 psi) would be very nice....I know its not gonna be a low gear street toy...but if I wanted that I woulda went a different route...something simple like a 18g...I mean my buddies t3/t04e when it comes into full boost sometime in the 4k range just roasts his tires (street tires...and I know that has a lot to do with it) but I mean...on radials hed hook good...I plan on being on radials 24/7...so idk, if It becomes that big of a problem with spool...i'm gonna spray it on the bottom end...lol

Re: (dubseven)
I have a T4/T67 divided ball-bearing in mine. I'm reaching 20 lbs of boost by 5500-6000 rpm, I don't have the logs in front of me. I have a .70 A/R on the hot side. It's more laggy that a T3/T4, but I want big power, and this is the way you have to get there. Boner-Ben is right about stepping up to a T4, because you can upgrade later if you're going to want more power... We'll see how this does, I may move to a bigger hot side later, and it will only cost me $150, everything else unchanged.
